Look at the model number. It will be 583.XXXXXXXX...
583 Was the Sears code for High Standard (they had multiple firearms suppliers.) XXXXXX will be a number that typically changed every year. Or at least it did for the Model 10 (bold action tube fed shotgun.) So a 583.1 was 12 ga, 1st year of production 583.2 was 16ga, 1st yr 583.3 was 20ga, 1st year 583.4 was 12 ga, 2nd yr 583.5 was 16 ga, 2nd year etc. Not sure if it worked the same for the Model 20 pump, but the resources are out there to translate JC Higgins model numbers. |

Nice gun. I've had a thing for old shotguns lately myself. '30s era Stevens 620 16ga earlier this year and a 1905 Husqvarna Model 20 16ga SXS external hammer this week. I did my Stevens much like your High Standard. Had both the trench and riot US marked stevens 620 shotguns. Sold them last year at auction. Seems like a posted pics here a couple years ago. Great to break them down and fit in a small bag. |
