Hello, I am new here, but have been lurking for awhile. I recently bought a used PTR91 from my dealer for $550!! It looked brand new and had a serial number in the 200's. Of course I didn't realize the whole deal about having an earlier model and the extraction issues until after I bought it. hough I was so pissed. He I was flabergasted to say the least! I just got it today and it already feels better just charging the action...nice and smooth!! I can't wait to shoot it! Just thought I would share my wonderful experience with JLD. |

Does the front fore arm push pin engage under the cocking tube and above the barrel ino a flat piece of puched metal, like the real German HK91's? I was looking at a FMP G3 parts kit today and they don't have this piece of metal. The Forearm are held in place by a push pin that just loosely fits between the barrel and cocking tube. |
Yeah, yeah, I'm gonna Dremel out those upper fake holes in the forearm all the way through so some heat can escape and hopefully that will keep it cooler in there. That and not fire 10 mags as fast as I can! |
I purchasd a portugese HK contract handguard from CDNN that I was going to put on my ptr-91, but I ended up selligng it. The port handguard has a heat shielf and appears higher quality than the JLD junkie one. The 2nd ptr-91 I was sent by JLD did appear to function fine, but I still traded it off. REally not a bad looking gun for the money if they could get real handguards, a real rear sight on it and fix the fore and aft wiggle in the trigger pack. Edit tha port handguard could cause a "parts count issue." |

Nice to see that Victor took care of you! I had a major problem with my PTR91 & it took a few phone calls and a lot of agrivation to finally get mine replaced! I was told mine couldnt be fixed & that was with under 300 being fired thru it! I will wait till I get the chance to put mine thru it's paces before I judge how the replacement rifle is! If there are any problems with the new one, I will off the accessories & gun! If it is good I will send Victor a thank you letter to let him know! |

Need pics of the inards, especially the bolt sides and face. I want to know if they are just assembling the parts kits they offer on thier receivers, if this is all they are doing then I will just buy the parts and assemble myself. |

I love mine. I also bought a used one, got a great deal with mags thrown in too. Mine is in the 800 sn range and has had zero problems. A wide HK hand guard will fix the heat problem. http://www.ramairfreight.com/jon/PTR91/PTR91_3.jpg |
I forgot the story-- did u melt the wide factory HG or the slimline? Trying to decide whether to go wide from the factory, or just get a slimline and replace it later (if the wide factory HG is also meltable). |
Get the slimline (cheaper) and replace the handguard later. |
Mine was a slimline, I agree, I'd get the slimline and just chuck the handguards it comes with and put a good one on. |
What kind of scope mount is that? |
Its a Brugger & Thomet model # 212621. I bought it from DSA |
How is it working out for you? Good clearance for the ejection port and such? Thanks... |
| I spoke with Victor today about the hand guard melting issue. He told me that The rifle is designed to be a precisiontarget rifle. When fired as such, the hand guards will not melt. It is not designed to rapid fire magazine after magazine. He assured me I will not melt any handguards under normal use. I will agree with the original post, JLD is great, and the PTR91 is a beauty. |
My PTR-91 jammed so much that I sure wasn't ripping off magazine after magazine when my handguards turned to goo. I was spending most of my time hitting the charging handle with a rubber mallet to get the brass out.![]() Anyway he's full of shit, they're just being cheap or can't get US made handguards with heat shields. You can usually find quality replacement handguards pretty easily so I wouldn't let that dissuade you from buying one of these. |
|
I agree to that he is full of shit... I have shot mine with the old hand guard on it and it got pretty damn hot and a tad soft... Anyone that hinks that some PTR owners will not dump some mags through the rifle is a idiot... Other than that, I love mine...of course I spent the money and got a wide handguard with a heatshield.. |
| I tried mine out a about 2 weeks ago. I only shot it out to 50yds but on two occasions I had 3 shot groups where all the holes where touching eachother. I was using 1980's Argentina ammo. Maybe I got lucky but these things seem like they really can group well with surplus ammo. Mine came with a wide forearm w/ heatchield and flash hider from atlantic firearms for $800. Not a single hiccup but I only put 100rds through it. I was really just test firing it to ensure ieverything worked properly before I have the trigger worked on. |

This is the response from JLD. Mike you are welcome, the only reason people are melting the handguards on the standard PTR-91 or PTR-91T is because they are shooting several magazines non stop, this rifle is made with accuracy in mind, that is the reason it has a target bull barrel, and the name PTR (precision target rifle). No target shooter will fire a couple of hundred rounds non stop. If you are planning to use this rifle for the type of shooting discribed than you are going to need a handguard that was made with heatshield for full auto shooting. We do not sell accesories but you can get one at www.gunbroker.com or www.auctionarms.com. Thank you Victor JLD Enterprises, Inc. I suppose if you are looking for the gun the Germans designed, then you pay the extra dollars and get the real thing. I am pleased with my PTR91, and if I find that I need to change the furniture, then I will. Problem solved! |
