This is a Russian capture K98. The markings were scrubbed save for the serial number and just enough of the date to see that it was made in 1940. The bore was decent, but shot very poorly. I found a NOS Danish military surplus 30-06 barrel and mounted it. I got the headspace perfect. That was indeed a thrill.
Anyway, I figured out a way to free float the barrel while keeping the rifle in military trim. I also fabricated a set of peep sights to replace that V notch abomination.
I blasted and parkerized it and set it back in the original stock. The result is an excellent shooter that is pleasing to my eye.

this is jacked up. Image shack seems to be a collosal waste of time.

From what I can see from the picture, beautiful rifle.  Just curious- why did you parkerize and not re-blue it?  Mausers were blued, not parkerized incase you didn't know.

I parked it because I already had all of the stuff to parkerize it from my F A L building projects. The bluing applied by the commies was adequate, but it was ugly. The shelac that they painted onto the stock ws so poorly done that it would flake off when the rifle was fired.
I had originally intended to apply a gloss black GunKote finish to it over the phosphate finish. But, the park turned out so well and I had other things to do, so I left it parked.

Gotcha.  Just was curious as to why.  Didn't know if you knew the difference between blueing and parkerizing.

Hello all. Some K98s were parked not blued. This was done later in the war and mostly on the kriegsmodels iirc. I had never heard of this until I noticed my BCD 42 had a parked buttplate. For more info try here Latewar.com.
