There is really nothing left. I was hoping to get one more. I assume the present admin. is choking off import of the Garands. Any chance this will change if Obama isn't reelected

The M1's the CMP sells are not imports. They are rifles the US lend-leased to other countries and we have now received back. Most of the rifles they've been selling the past few years were recently returned from Greece. Hopefully they'll have some more available soon but I haven't heard if they've still got some in stock that they have to sort or if there are any more inbound.

Sorry I misspoke. I knew they were returns I just had import in my head. Thanks for correcting me though. I wonder if the inventory on at the store is better?

What do you mean CMP is out of Garands?? They have plenty of inventory, some of the best they have had for years
They are temporarily out of Service Grades

The CMP has had their folks cleaning house.  Big warehouse crate auction, big sale of small batches of random rifles.

Lots of labor involved in these ops.  They'll get back to prepping service-grade M1s for sale, I'm sure.

Plenty of field grades. The Service grades seem scarce except for the ones with "Walnut stocks and handguards and associated hardware are new manufacture" @ $900

I also see ammo is getting scarce also. No ammo on clips.

You really need to hang out on the CMP forums.  I'm fairly sure Orest said that the loose packed / boxed ammo will be sold before the ammo on clips.

Orest has lots of ammo in the warehouses.  It won't last forever, but there's a bunch there.  My last order, there was no limit to what people could order.

There isn't any clipped ammo at the e-store Just the loose stuff

Yes.  Loose/boxed ammo will be sold before ammo on clips.

Not everything in the warehouses is in the e-store.

You really need to hang out on the CMP forums.

Plenty of clipped ammo in spam cans left. They are just selling off the loose ammo in 30 cal ammo cans first..... Next

OMG !!! Don't scare me by saying they have nothing left as I am waiting to get one at the 1st of the year, I checked and I see the still have several grades in stock and I can bet Orest has a surprise or two in the future.

They are just backlogged and have stopped accepting orders until they can get caught up.  People start complaining if they don't get their rifle in the next weeks Fedex delivery.  And the supply of service grades are getting harder to come by.  Oh and then their is the coming price increases.

A price increase has already been announced and will probably coincide with the next availability of Service Grade rifles.

You'll probably see Service Grades jump by $75 - $100.
With that, I would recommend a "Service Grade Special".  You get correct, COLLECTOR grade metal in a new walnut CMP Stock set.  Ditch the stock (you can sell it for $100 on the CMP Forum) and buy a correct stock for $225+, so net of $125.   You pretty much end up with a collector grade rifle at a much lower price than the $1500 CMP asks for....   But I would order now before the price increase.

This is basically how I acquired my "collector" SA 5.8 and H&R M1s...

CMP runs out of various grades with some frequency.  Then they unpack and grade some more and they're back in stock.  It's a fairly small organization and the staff gets overwhelmed and behind the curve easily depending on the current state of the panic.

As far as the Korean guns are concerned reports have indicated they are beat, very tough condition.  And the last I knew, CMP was never going to get those anyway.  CMP gets rifles that were loaned to our allies.  Technically they remained US property.  Guns sold to foriegn countries, where ownership actually passed from the US to Italy, Denmark, whoever, cannot  be brought back via CMP.  The Korean guns are apparently in this latter category, though the paper trail is bit cloudy.

Service grades will be back in stock at the beginning of the year.  A few collector grades are coming soon.  As it was said there is still a lot of clipped ammo but they want to get rid of the loose stuff first.  BTW the Greek clips, suck.  Go to the cmp boards.  People sell bulk USGI all the time, usually a buck a piece shipped!  They also just had a big bolt action sale (last one ever) which I got lucky with, service grade M1917 Remington and a Remington 1903a3 both in fantastic shape.  Orrest said with that and the crate auctions they just didn't have the man power to replenish.  Once they get through the bolt orders and increase the price they will be back up.  No need to freak out, yet!

Back in the early 90's there was a man selling Korean M1 carbines.

They were 225.00 (I wish now that I bought one), anyway they were in good

shape metal wise, but they had big Korean Letters carved deeply in the

side of the stock.

The price is only increasing by 20-30 bucks a rifle.  That was from Orest's mouth at the western games.  Plenty of ammo left, and once they get through the huge influx of other orders and field grades, the service grades will be back.

Well, that's not a rumor I have ever heard and it probably would be illegal since these are being BOUGHT by someone and that's out of CMP's pervue.

CMP is not buying them and would not be involved in buying or selling them.

If they were sold to the Koreans they would in turn sell them to Importers. CMP would have nothing to do with them as the rifles they sell are given to them from the US Army. CMP does not buy rifles

Yeah, but have you seen one of these rifles?

They're pretty stinking nice! I'd own one, if I had the spare cash. I wouldn't blink at the price, either. They're worth it, IMO.

Last I heard, the Feds blocked the re-importation. It's a dead subject.

I picked up 15 clips right here on the EE a few months ago for 80 or so cents each shipped. They're available in lots of places. I also scour a local antique store for deals. My latest was a bunch of Enfield chargers for a fair amount less than they go for online. He's supposed to call me if ANYTHING for an M1 comes in, even if it's just a sling or oiler.

And from what I have heard most are in worse shape than the Blue Sky imports were. There might be a hidden gem or two but they'll be ruined by importer stamps. Shooters, yes, but a good portion of the collectability will be gone.
