It took about 10 years to amass that much.  All different kinds...no crap though.  It was all under 2$ back in the day.  I wish I would have known prices were gonna skyrocket.  I would have put my retirement into 50 ammo.

1700 M8AP
1200 M33 ball

few hundred API and tracer

Was buying this stuff years ago at fun shows and Knob Creek when the getting was good at about a buck a round. The missus eyes the stash every now and again and asks "Isn't that pile just a little larger than it used to be?" No dear, I've had that for years.

I hear ya.  I lost my entire ammo and most of my gun collection in a house fire
two years ago, including my AR50.  Some $20k worth of various ammo and
components at then prices.  Of course, that was some 15-20 years of buying.

Imagine my surprise when I got a new .50 and went to start buying ammo last
year.  Replacement value of that ammo stash at today's prices is something
like $50K.  Now my growing gun and ammo collection is stored in several locations...

Lost my powder, primers, and reloading equipment in a house fire as well.  April 2005.  Guns were in a safe though and survived.

Dang, I'm used to seeing people at local range with 20 50 cal rounds, maybe 30 the most. 3200+ is a GOOOOD number.....

Worse for me is that I'm so far out in the middle of nowhere that I couldn't get
insurance, so I was stuck with rebuilding everything from scratch.

I had about half my pistols in a fire safe, and I knew it was a total loss when there
was a bullet hole from inside the safe.  The fire was so hot (house had a metal roof
which acted like an oven) that the AR50 barrel was *drooping*.  I'm still
mining lead out of the burn site.

My new shooting shack (about a third done) is on my 100 yard range and I'm
building it out of concrete and steel so it will not only be my shooting
and reloading hut, but also my gun safe.

I sympathize with ya, though I will say that I've used it as a good reason to
rebuild my gun collection with fewer guns of higher quality that I shoot more
often.  Other than the AR50, the most expensive gun I had before wasn't
worth more than $500.  I figure another year or two and I'll have the collection
rounded out and I'll be able to shoot more since less of my gun budget will
be going to guns and more to ammo.  Then you might start seeing me at
.50 matches.

Yeah.  Tell me about it.  My kid's a pyro and I USED to like to shoot tracers.  Maybe we've broken the kid of his pyro ways but I still want to shoot tracers.  Guess i'll just have to do it at an MG shoot in the swamp somewhere.
