[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Just got my FN FS2000 (Page 1 of 2)
| Congrats. I bit on the only one in town today. They wanted $2,499 but took $2,000 ($2,149 out the door). I did just okay I guess. The gun is awesome though. Don't you love how light it is and how snappy it is to shoulder? Now what to do with the 2000 rds. of Wolf .223 that I have that I'm not supposed to feed it? I guess its going to be around $150/ case to feed this thing. Anybody know the best shipped price for the quality of ammo that this thing requires? |

Congrat's it's looks like a nice rifle. How does it shoot, handle and feel? Are mag changes quick? I like it but that's a bit pricey. The length of it total is really nice and the forward ejection and ambi controls look to make it a winner. I wouldn't mind one that's for sure, but I'm not getting all tingly for that price. $1200.00 to $1400.00 would be about right. They are using alot of polymer so it should be cheaper to make, not more expensive.

Ok, so here is the deal after a trip to the range. Shot 240 rounds of various 5.56 ammo through the gun with NO problems. Shot: Federal XM193 Winchester Q3131 Remington UMC 55g (white / green box) 2 mags. of each First impressions: •Recoil was very nice for a light gun, went straight back with very little rise at the muzzle. •Sounds was very quiet with out all of the clanging of springs and bolts that I typically notice out of my AR. •Ejection was a little distracting as after every shot either 1 or a few rounds would drop out of the front (just not used to this) •Smells - was surprised that all the gas / smoke from the discharge stayed in front of me and was not choking me. •Trigger was a little long with some play in it at the beginning (not a match / crisp type trigger). •Groups were very consistent with all of the ammo, shot at 25, 50, 75 & 100 yrds with no problem. •Mag changes were a little awkward as the release is under the trigger guard at the rear of the grip you have to push up and pull down at the same time. The loop on my mag pulls would work much better if they were oriented from front to back edge of the mags instead of side to side (maybe I can invent one). The COOLEST thing to me was the way it ejects a round if you have one in the chamber and want to clear the gun. What I did was flipped up the access door on top (to observe) with a mag in and the safety on (of course pointing the gun down range at all times) and cycled the bolt a few times what I saw was the round being taken out of the chamber angled up and pushed down the ejection tube and exiting the frame at the front, I did this with about 7-8 rounds and worked great every time. The most awkward thing for me was the safety / selector it is a rotating selector at the base of the trigger guard for Safety position you push it to the left with your index finger (if right handed) and to fire you would pull (rotate) to the right. Just seemed to be backwards as most of my other guns I push with my trigger finger to remove from safety and to fire. Just me but no big deal. Overall extremely happy and pleased with the performance, function, and comfort of this gun. I will take some pics. Of the parts prior to cleaning. |
I did not see anything in the manual about being adjustable I think it will be a FN gunsmith adjustment. Also, on the ammo issue the only thing the manual notes is that you are to use NATO and or SAAMI (or what ever it is) standards for ammo. Did not say anything about Wolf or Steel Case. |
The trigger tamer is made for the Steyr AUG but I am not sure if something can be made for the FS2000. The guy that makes the tamer said he couldn't do it for the PS90. You could contact FN and ask them about Wolf steel cased ammo. They'll either say it voids the warranty, or "why would you shoot 10c ammo out of a $2000 gun", or it'll be fine |

Actually, I like the two-tone green with black. I think that the way the green goes up to the front, almost like a stripe, it breaks up the potential bulky look that the all-black gun would have. I think that if I got one, I'd get it just like this one, with the two-tone. |

I just picked mine up at Military Gunsupply on Wednesday. It's one of those purchases that caused me to have to do some "shifting" in the collection. I definitely wouldn't put wolf in it, but then again, I don't put wolf in my AR's either. What really amazed me was that it was still shorter than my 14.5" bushmaster fully collapsed! I consider it my "as close to SBR w/o a tax stamp" rifle. Since it has the gas adjustment for shooting subsonic rounds, I would imagine a slightly creative person would build an suppressor that fit over the fixed flash hider, or at least make a flash hider to do it. I'll have to double check, but I was thinking the hider was pinned on in order to satisfy the barrel length restriction. |
If you read just about any US made gun warranty, they will all say use of reloaded, or forgeign ammo will also void the warranty.. Piss on it, I'd use Wolf, can't hurt it, just make it dirtier.. |
Bushmaster uses and approves the use of Wolf, and I think they're the only US gun maker that says that. |
PLEASE tell me that's not a plastic hammer (white) and some kind of tan plastic piece inside a white plastic housing on a $2000 rifle? I love the looks of this bullpup, but that's a real let-down if the majority of the material used on the trigger/hammer group is non-metal.
|
Other than the pins, springs, and drop safety, almost all of the hammer group is plastic. The white ejector thingy is also plastic... The "pros" say it'll work just fine, as "HSLD operators" around the world have used it but keep in mind that the AUG has had over 25 years in the market (as has Glock) and look at the number of iterations/changes that have been made. The FS2000 was developed in 2000-2001. |
Steyr didn't make the FS2000 hammer group, although the resemblance is remarkable. My PS90 hammer has a few scratches/wear marks that indicate something brushed over it and impacting the firing pin, but nothing serious yet. |
