Will a semiauto version ever be available for purchase?  Has any government agency purchased these yet?

It's beautiful, I want one.

With this and the MagPul, what is with the interest in PDWs again?

By the way that is a sweet picture.

War is a great impetus for weapon development, and the Army has shown interest in adopting a PDW for its support troops.

I thought I read that it wouldn't be coming any time soon since Knights is busy with military contracts.

Body Armor is becoming WAY too common among much the world's military and some is showing up in the hands of even terrorists.

We need calibers that have a chance at punching through body armor and pistol calibers just aren't going to get the job done.

We've got Blackhawk pilots carrying big old M4s and they need something more compact.

Add to that all the benefits of giving support guys firearms that will be easier to aim and fire.

This was the orignal intent of the M4 but like the M11 pistol it became a status symbol among special operations and officers. if a PDW gets adopted count on it being the next super secret squirrel tacticool weapon for the poser crowd. prepare for endless threads about "my new PDWforgery build"

That makes sense. I remember reading a news story last year about the Israeli/Hezbollah war that said that the Hezbollah fighters were wearing body armor and using good tactics combined with a suicidal disregard for their losses. If those guys got in the rear with the support guys and all they had were smgs and pistols it could be exciting.

Thanks for the explanation.

Bah, big deal. I saw it at SHOT, it is some wierd proprietary caliber from what I remember. Not that much smaller than a 7" barreled AR. It would be stupid to add another caliber in the military, and I think I'd rather have an MP7A1 for "cool factor".

Of course. And then those people will bitch when their PDW doesn't ballistically act like a real rifle.

It's the circle of life.

The new caliber is for the short barrel.  5.56 ammo was made for 20" barrels, which is why you get such a wonderfully huge fireball when you shoot it out of a 7" barrel.  All that extra powder is useless, hence a new, shorter cartridge.
