I've got a couple combat shotguns but I kind of lost interest in them a few years ago. It's probably been at least 2 years since I even fired one. To me they just had too many disadvantages; big, clunky, low capacity, etc.
Yesterday, I picked up a KSG for the first time. WHOLE-LEE-SHIT. Light, compact, 15 rounds, superb ergonomics and handling characteristics. I can't remember the last time I wanted a gun so bad the first time I touched it. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Picked one up last week. $80 under MSRP at my local gun shop. It's a pretty cool piece. Honestly, I never thought I would buy a kel-tec. (No offense) but it's one of those things I felt I had to have, lol. Picking up Eotech XPS2-0 for it tomorrow. Should work out nicely I think. http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/ae253/JFLOINDUSTRIES/KSG/4263622c.jpg I was told firing it is ruff on your cheek. Tell us your thoughts on ur ksg |

Firing isn't rough on your cheek? The cheek cover is smooth. Now the recoil into your shoulder, that will wake you up haha. It's not unbearable though. |

I've been lusting after the KSG since the news of it's creation was released. A very good friend was kind enough to loan me his for a few days, in order to try it. I took it to the range today and, between myself, my son, and my Dad, we put 84 rounds through it. We fired 72 rounds of Remington LE Reduced Recoil 9 pellet 00 Buck and 12 rounds of Remington Managed Recoil 1 oz slugs. My Dad only fired 3-4 rounds, my son fired about 14, and I fired the rest. I have significantly more shotgunning experience than either of them, and significantly more combat firearms training, in general.
I will eventually buy one for the sheer cool factor, but it will NEVER replace my 870's as my primary shotguns. My issues with it are: Excessive recoil, even while shooting reduced recoil 2 3/4" ammo. My shoulder was ok, but my cheek has a quarter-sized bruise on it. I used a "push/pull" technique while firing every round, but still found it a bit rough. A couple tubes-worth (14 rounds) were fired using a push/pull technique with the gun about 6 inches in front of my shoulder, just to see how bad it was. The recoil wasn't too bad, even with the majority of it being forced into the web area of my dominant hand. But, when fired from the shoulder, it hurt my cheek. The gun short-stroked very often (a minimum of 20 times during the entire session). If you aren't VERY forceful with the pumping, it seemed to eject an empty but not reload. The gun was equipped with a small handstop on the rearmost position of the underside rail. The owner of the gun said he'd had a VFG on it, but was concerned about using it due to the reports of rails cracking during use. I think a MagPul AFG, with a small handstop in front, would help with the pumping of the action. The teeth at the rear of each of the mag tubes are very sharp and could easily rip gloves or skin. Reloading is not the easiest task, especially when the gun is held up to the shoulder. It is really just a training issue, though, and something that would get easier with experience. The act of switching between mag tubes is also a training issue that would require much practice to make it second nature. Field stripping and reassembly is a bit difficult, or at least more difficult than doing the same with an 870. I wanted to clean it before returning it, so I popped the two take-down pins and began to dissamble the gun. As I removed the stock and the cover, the bolt came out and fell onto the floor in front of me (I was sitting on the floor, so it only dropped 3-4 inches). it took a minute of looking at the bolt, the carrier, and the chamber to ensure I was putting the bolt back into the gun properly. Then, reassembling the gun was difficult. It took me a few minutes to figure out the correct sequence of words to chant as I hopped on one foot dancing around a fire, praying to the shotgun gods for the divine intervention necessary to get the two pins to go back into the gun once I got the stock back on properly. It wasn't nearly as difficult as reassembling a Ruger MkII, but it was much more difficult than reassembling an 870. Overall, it is an interesting firearm, but it definitely will take a lot of practice time to make it's manual of arms as intuitive as a standard pump-action shotgun, such as an 870 or 500. Therefore, I will definitely wait until the sales prices come down to Earth and are closer to, if not below, MSRP, so that the rest of the money can be used for the ammo and range fees that will be truly necessary to really train with it. |

Made a quick video clip at the range yesterday. The KSG is a blast to shoot but my shoulder is Sore! Hah

Picked one up last week. $80 under MSRP at my local gun shop. Your local gun shop has some mighty-nice folks running it. Even the stand-up guys at my local gun shop are putting them up on Gunbroker as soon as they get them in. Can't say I blame them, since they seem to still be going for about $1200 there. |
| I walked into the LGS looking for a GSG-522 today and walked out with a KSG that had been there for a total of 10 minutes, and got it for $210 under MSRP. The thing is tiny compared to my 20" 500 and substantially lighter, but I suspect it'll take some time to get used to the recoil since I have a Knoxx on the Mossberg. |

Quoted: Quoted: . I will wait till supply catches up and it will. With Kel-Tec? Not likely. Even now the last PMR-30 I saw(a month ago) went for close to $600. The KSG will stay double MSRP or more for quite some time. I have no need for either, but would like a KSG and PMR-30 for shits and giggles. ![]() |

I'm just the luckiest guy on the planet, or was that day ;) I was messing with it some last night and discovered something I didn't expect. It'll feed upside down, on it's side from either mag, straight down, straight up, etc. Rack it and there will be a round in the chamber (assuming you don't forget to select a mag with ammo in it). |

If someone with the knowledge and tools would design an auto-select conversion(maybe one that could be disabled at the wish of the shooter if manual select was preferable) that somebody would become rather rich. There are times when 14 rounds of slugs would be a better option than 7 slugs and 7 buckshot. If the tube selector tripped itself the gun would be a true 14+1, instead of 7+7+1. |
