I'd love to hear someone's opinion on the most recent lineup of Keltec weapons.
I'll admit, when I see a Keltec pistol, all I can think of is Hi-Point and other crap guns out there...not exactly dripping with quality. However, I've been reading up on these 5.56 Keltec rifles, and their new .308 bullpup...and they look like pretty neat rifles. Reviews have said that the accuracy of the 5.56 is on par with a Mini-14..not spectacular. So, i'd like to hear from someone who has shot one, or owns one. Thanks guys! |

Thanks,
I've looked at their website, but I wanted to hear from a satisfied customer. I guess my main question was how accurate they were, compared to my M4gery. I'd like a piston driven 5.56, and this seems like an inexpensive alternative, and if it is relatively accurate and durable, i guess i'm in. Thanks again |

Dude you asked at like 1 in the morning and expect every kel-tec owner to respond in less than 8 hours check back again tomorrow or ask a mod to move this over to GD.
I have no experience with the Kel-tec line are 5.56 rifles but just like the OP im interested because the damn things so light and an alternative to the AR platform. |

P-32, no complaints, but I sold it because I wasn't going to use such a small caliber.
PLR-16, fun, reliable, accurate with Black Hills 60 grain jsp. Sub2000 .40 cal, glock mags, fun, reliable, good groups, easy to shoot. I've had good experiences with Kel-tec, and the RFB looks like dynamite! |
| If you compare the Keltec's with Hi Point's or other "crap" guns you are wrong. They are well-made, no-frills, functional firearms made to a price point. They also have great customer service. I've carried my P-11 for over 10 years and put thousands of rounds through it with no problems. I have no experience with the long guns, but have heard a lot of good things about them. There was a very positive thread on the Bower's board recently. |

PeaceKeeper,
how do you like that PLR? I guess I'm looking for a tight, concealable rifle in 5.56, and I'm just wondering about how the PLR performs compared to the SU 16 line. I'm pretty set on the PLR, actually, but I could still use some words of encouragement. What kind of patterns are you seeing? I think one of these with a grip pod would be great as a survival rifle/pistol |
My luck was no so good with the SU16.. First one, jammed all the time, sent it back and got a new one in return. Take it out for a class and the tang where the gun is pinned breaks. Sent it back again... get another one. Didn't fire a round and sold it along with a new PLR16 fearing problems and time to get them fixed.
P3AT (1st gen) sent back twice and then sold it. PF9 - reliable and haven't had any problems. Sub2000 in 9 - Shot so far off to the left that the sights couldn't adjust. Sent it back and it's all good now. I'd buy another of these, just too much fun! Sometimes I think I'm on a first name basis with the tech support department. RFB - great idea and would love the target version, but given my history with Kel-Tec and the price, nope. |

Su-16a here also. Excellent rifle especially for the money and have heard that customer service is top notch. Only problems I have had are feeding issues with 30 round magazine's. The stock ten rounders have performed flawlessly.
And yeah I would say accuracy is on par with mini 14 |

Quoted:
Kel-Tec is a great example of why companies need to spend money on their marketing budget. Public perception and awareness is key to brand recognition. Screw that. Keltec is an engineering company that also happens to build firearms. They build a quality product and it sells itself. The last thing Keltec needs to do is waste money on marketing. There are already plenty of marketing companies that also happen to sell firearms: Kimber, HK, Springfield Armory etc... There are plenty of overpriced firearms already out there for the "fit and finish" crowd. Keltec builds value priced products and they need to stay that way. |

I think one of these with a grip pod would be great as a survival rifle/pistol The PLR is a pistol that is very close to their SBR they sell, all it needs is their folding stock and a tax stamp to make it really cool. To put a front verticle grip on it you would need to have it papered as a AOW, that would be too much trouble for such a little gain over having it papered as a SBR. Of course that would cost a lot more money to do. As far as how it shoots, I have an EOTECH on it and it shoots pretty good, nice groups for being what it is. The factory 10 round mag did not work for me, I mostly use 20 round mags in it but the 30 round mags work fine also. As for shooting it, the single point sling is nice, you can put a little forward tension on the firearm to help steady it. I have the Noveske KX3 Flash Suppressor on mine to help with the muzzle blast, it is very loud! I am pleased with mine. |
| I've got 4 Keltecs. Haven't had any problems w/ any of them. (P11 (2), P32, and Sub2K.) I know several other Keltec owners. None of them have had problems. On the other hand, the Keltec pistols will jam if you limp wrist them. The Sub2K seems good. I've heard the 223 rifles can have problems if you do lots of mag dumps, but they seem too flimsy to me for the money so I haven't owned/shot one. |

I don't think KelTecs problem is marketing. I see their ads all the time. The problem is, if there is one, is they look "cheap" to me. Plus, they don't have a big name shooter promoting them.
Whether they need to or not, is another issue. If they work, why do they need to have a Glock like following that tells you it's the only decent weapon there is? They don't. I'm also curious and thank you for asking OP. I don't know if I'd ever get one, but I don't know, the SU16 and that 9mm carbine sort of interest me. But they're so cheap looking. They just don't "look" like they'd be reliable. But who knows, maybe I'm full of it. Looks can be deceiving. |
