Having a hard time deciding which length to choose. Pics would be much appreciated-Google isn't much help

Thanks!

I have both the long and short mrex rail on my Scar 17s. I prefer the shorter rail. I personally have no use for the extra length and weight for the longer rail. Also I'm still on the fence on chopping and pinning my barrel which would be perfect for the shorter version.

Go with the shorter one.

I have the long one on my 16 and short one on my 17, the main reason being my FH choice.  My 17 has the long AAC mount that covers part of the barrel, and part of the mount would be under the long rail.

That said, in probably get the short rail for the weight reduction on the 16 if I had to do it again.  The largest reason for getting a long rail is for a longer sight iron  radius but 1) I use an optic anyway, 2) you use the factory gas block mounted front sight anyway with the rail , and 3) the part of the rail in front of the gas block is lower than the receiver rail, so any sight on there wouldn't line up with the rear sight.  I'd only go with long rail if I absolutely needed to mount something that far forward.

If you want a better idea of which one to choose, the short one is 4.9" and the long one is 6.5". Those measurements are how much the rail extends forward of the front sling swivel. Knowing that, you can grab your rifle and a ruler and see how long you want it. I run the short one on my 16S and use the lower rail in front of the gas block for my Surefire X300U-A and it fits perfectly. I think the longer rail is probably more suited for for a DBAL or something like that, but would come in handy if you needed more space for a light too. I really like having the light there as it's out of the way and puts light directly on the POA.

I went with the long rail, primarily to fill the gap between the rail and suppressor a little more.
