Years ago I remember seeing flintlock muzzle loading rifles and pistols that you could buy as an unassembled, unfinished kit and do-it-yourself.

Now that my gunsmithing acumen is in puberty, I'd like to try one of those, perhaps to hang above my fireplace and say "yep, Ah built dat dere gun"

are they still around and where to find them?

I built a Kentucky style percussion muzzleloading pistol years ago.  It was kind of cool, but with the time and money I put into that pistol I could have bought two already assembled.  Couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with it, but I was still pretty proud of it.

Yeah, some of the guns on Dixie's site must be gold plated!  But a $150 rifle kit would be fun to build I think, and look good over the fireplace.  I probably won't shoot it at all, except maybe once or twice to get the feel of it and say it works
