Ok i've looked at CVS, Walgreens, Wally World to no avail. Only lanolin I can find is creme format. Not liquid, also not finding 99% alcohol, but can find the 91% (is that ok?)
Any ideas (besides online) where I can locally find liquid lanolin? Thanks |

Health food stores will have the lanolin. Or nutritional stores.
Goto to a local pharmacy (not big chain), and if they don't have the 99%, they can order for you. That's what I did. In this thread there are places where guys ordered online. |

Iso Heet gasline anti freeze in the red bottle is 99% iso.
Lanolin at health vitamin stores, nursing mothers use it to help with chaffing SIWT. That's where I found my supplies, make sure thr gas line antifreeze says iso; Nox Ice is another iso that is a known trade name: as well as others. . So check your auto stores for iso gasline anti freezes thet are usually 99% iso. Lol I can' t believe how slow I type on this note pad. sdshooter........... |

I want to say to look around at the all natural health type places.. sister in-law got some somewhere that she took and put into bottles for handsoap ?? They still sitting in cabinet in laundry with the idea that I'd turn it into case lube some day. You really need to try it. I just tried it two weeks ago, and it is as good as everyone says. |

Awesome ! Found it at the local herb shop. Now to get that heat stuff, hmmm 10oz to 1 oz of lanolin. Figure this will be much quicker than lubing up my hands with the imperial wax like a teenage boy with a girly mag. Lol Does make for soft hands though Save a little Lanolin for those rough mainlh hands! Even at 8 or 10 to 1 it leaves your hands moist. Nothing like good old sheep sweat to make for happy hands! |

So I'm curious. Once I mix this up in the bottle I process brass in the plastic shoe boxes, fits about 500-600 cases. Now I need to let it dry for a bit right? Also....once I've sprayed it, is there a time limit before I must have processed it? Or can I spray it and then just run it whenever I get around to it?
And how long is getting around to it, 1day, 1 wk, 2wks? infinate? |

Make sure to let the alcohol dry totally, then size; drying time depends
on temp and humidity. Cooler and higher humldity takes longer to dry. How long it lasts I've no clue, but would think (someone can corrrect me) until you clean it off. Myself if in dought spray it again as cheap as it is. Again Iso Heet gas line anti freeze (about $2 a bottle) at most quaility auto part store, or the equivalent, I believe it is in a 12 ounce bottle. sdshooter............. |

It was funny....They asked, so what are you using it for.......Ohhhhh man the possible funny answers I could have thrown their way.... But I was nice and didn't mess with them, just said it makes a great lubricant for forming metal so the metal doesnt deform or stick in the forming dies. Possible things I really wanted to say.... 1. Well I'm the director of a adult entertainment production studio, and well...this stuff makes a great lubricant. 2. Well with the right mixes of ingrediants you have make some really good high explosives. You'd be amazed at this stuff mixed with a little alcohol. 3................ |

wow....i used just a little over 1/4th of that bottle into a cleaned out clorox spray bleach container, then threw in all 12 oz of the iso. sprayed about 15 rounds, let them sit until dry.
I was hesitant at first cause with the hand lube you REALLY feel them greasy and they stick to you. This on the other hand sorta had that feel like the coated steel rounds, just that feeling like a thin wax layer exists. Ran it up into the die, smooth as silk just like with imperial wax. I think i'm REALLY going to like this...less mess, and I can just run them through decap, size/trim, neck expander then throw them straight into the wet tumbler. When they exit all I have to do is bevel the edges then load them up. I like the dillon trimmer thus far, but i must say...i'm thinking since i'm beveling the edges of the case like you should, perhaps the quicker process will definately be the giraud. Then you just decap, size...tumble..giraud, ready for load. - seems much more efficient. (sorry off topic) |

I use that same lanolin from Amazon with IsoHeet on the bargain rack at the local auto parts store. 8:1 was too thick, so I thinned mine out to 12:1. Much better. I throw a hundred or so .223 cases in a gallon ziplock, give 3 or 4 sprays (ymmv), knead it around for a minute, and dump them out on paper towels to dry. It's the best I've used so far.

Took me forever to find the lanolin locally but I eventually did at the local health food shop. Never could find 99%IPA so just went with the ISOheet. Never will I roll brass on a lube pad again!
On a side note, I am in nursing school and currently in my OB/delievery rotation. Instructor looked at me crazy when I discussed looking for lanolin to use in an alcohol based spray lubricant. priceless; thanks afrcom |

I agree with the 12:1, which I learned was the best ratio from this thread. We are reinventing the wheel with this thread, this topic is covered on page 2 of the sticky thread "Read First, useful threads.." Link I'm not trying to be a jerk, but when we duplicate existing threads that are in the resource/sticky portion of this sub-forum, many of us will miss out on pertinent information. |
