have a camelback with 100oz bladder but want something between 2-3 gallons that's still "tactical".

I know about the Squadback but it's not really suitable for a person.

3 gallons is like 19 lbs...
Can I ask what your end goal is?

I have nothing helpful to contribute.

It's more like 25 lbs. The best way to hump a shitload of water is on a frame. Or put it in the back of a truck. Not sure how tactical you can be with a few gallons of water sloshing around.

Hmm, I thought a gallon was like 6.4#
Regardless, it won't be fun

This pack will hold 0, 1, or 2 100 oz bladders.  If ACU is NG, then dye with Rit Apple Green  or Rit Taupe (brown-tint) dye.  First-class materials and construction.  Bottom will accept GI MOLLE waistpack or add-on cargo straps.  Rummage around, as there are some pretty decent bargains on the site:http://www.supplycaptain.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&product_ID=621&ParentCat=66

That seems like what I want. 100 oz is really not enough on extended hikes. But 2 or 3 bladders are sufficient.

What is your AO?

I would carry 100oz and use a filter... unless you're in the desert.

I have had good luck with MSR Dromedary Bags.  They are rugged and don't pop or leak easily.  I keep them rolled up in my ruck and use my filter to fill them.

AquaSource 20L Water Tanker on a DEI 1606 frame with their mountaineering pad set.

Lots of water, tactical look, and while heavy when filled, still comfortable to carry.

That's no where near as comfortable as one mounted to an external frame with proper padding that's been fitted and adjusted to the wearer, like the Source bladder on a DEI 1606 frame.

6.2 - 6.4 # is around what a gallon of gasoline weighs.

For water, "A pint's a pound, the world 'round." 2 pints per quart, 4 quarts per gallon, gives you around 8lbs/gallon as a general figure.

That's good to know for gasoline, though.

ETA: IIRC, for distilled water, 1 liter weighs 1 kilogram. 1 kilo is ~2.2lb, and a gallon is ~3.79 liters. 3.79 x 2.2 = 8.338
