The norm seems to be everyone wanting tight shot patterns. I understand why, and have done my work with them in the past. For hunting or the optimum defensive shot i don't disagree with anyone aboout it. I have that covered.
What I want is a short range shotgun with a very large pattern. Say 20+ inches at 10 yards with BB or #4 buck. I get 10-12" now with Cheap felt wad shells and a skeet choke. I've been reading about spreader wads, spreader chokes, and the nonexistent duckbill chokes. The duckbill being the only one intended for larger shot sizes. Does anyone have any good information about this, I'm wanting to gather some stuff up for a startup range session in a few weeks but there just don't seem to be much info on the subject. thanks |

Yeh, I half assed patterned them, biggest thing I could get was about 12 inches so far. I'd like at least twice that.
I haven't decided whether I want a choke or a shell to accomplish this. I suppose a shell would be more versatile, I sent out an email to Polywad about their Spread-R wads to see if I could use larger shot sizes than the birdshot they speak of. A choke would be thread specific or permanent mount and I can't decide which gun I would build on if I could find a diverter or duckbill. I'm going to order a spreader choke, and I have a rifled choke I'm gonna try just cause I want to know what it does. All's I know for sure is tax times coming and this is this years gun project. |
