Im looking for a minimalist chest rig for a grab and go kit. No more than 4 AR mag pouches needed (prefer open top with cord, not velcro), 4 pistol mag pouches and space for a first aid/blowout. I would like minimalist style to where I can throw it over my neck and go. Nothing on back just straps. no holster on rig as it would already be on me.
This is my first time posting or even looking in this sub-forum, Im only familiar with big green army issue gear. Pics are welcome too if you have some ideas for me. Thanks |

Blue force gear. SKDtac. Minimalist and will do what you need.
http://www.skdtac.com/Blue-Force-Gear-Ten-Speed-Chest-Rig-p/bfg.510.htm Add an HSGI bleeder with shears, TQ, emergency bandage, surgical gloves, and tape. Bam.
On the other side, mount a small pouch for random stuff you like to have on hand. Batteries. Lots of guys forget batteries. Eyepro. |

Another option is the HGSI value pack here.
The BFG is good kit. And Blacktides layout suggestion would work very well but it doesnt really allow for the pistol mags. |

Do you need supplemental armor? Or are you already wearing armor? If you don't want or need armor, consider this. http://www.skdtac.com/Blue-Force-Gear-Ten-Speed-Six-Pack-Bandoleer-p/bfg.511.htm Grab it, throw it over your shoulder and go. No room for an IFAK, but it is a great choice for ammo only. For an IFAK use the Pocket D.A.R.K. Stick it in a pocket and carry it always. http://www.shop.darkangelmedical.com/Pocket-DARK-Civ-LE-Black-Sleeve-01-0017.htm |

I'm having the same quandary myself. I've considered a bag, a chest rig or a plate carrier. I've got all three but can't decide which is the best way. Part of me says bag. Easy to throw over a shoulder, can add more than enough stuff for a long engagement.
Then the chest rig. When I start to load it up, it gets close to having all of the stuff my plate carrier has, but without the plates. Then the plate carrier. It takes a lot of time to don and route over my uniform and radio equipment. Guess that answers my own questions. Kind of. |

Take a look at Mayflower Research and Consulting. They make awesome light weight, very well thought out kit. I have one of the Gen IV Chest Rigs. Seen here:
http://www.mayflower-rc.org/store/7034/39/UW-Chest-Rig-Gen-IV.html I am LEO and I used it for several years, until I bought a plate carrier. They also make one called the Active Shooter. Seen Here: http://www.mayflower-rc.org/store/7034/10/LE-Active-Shooter-Chest-Rig.html It's not cheap but a great set up. I used the radio pouches to put my aid kit in. If you wanted or needed more than 4 mags the radio pouches will also hold mags. Sorry I don't know if the links are hot or not. Ill try to post photos of mine later. |

| I went with a plate carrier so I could have armor but I have a bag and "mag pouch sling" type deal as well. The plate carrier doesn't really take any more time to don and even if it did the benefit is worth it to me. The bag and mag sling move around more and interfere with my belt stuff more. I keep the mag sling around in case my backup doesn't have mags and I can equip them easily. |
