Newbie here.

I have been loading my plinking ammo on a lee pro 1000. As you probably know the powder system on most progressives isn't the best for bulky powers like varget.

I purchased a Lee Perfect powder measure early last week to load some very controlled 75 gr Hornady's rounds. I wanted to see if it would throw consistent charges  of varget.

Anyway, I used the lee pro 1000 as a single stage for primers and bullet seating.

I used the Perfect powder measure for throwing charges.

Once I dialed in the Perfect powder measure.... I threw consistent 23 gr charges with varget.... charge after charge 23gr's.

I was determined to have the lee throw some +- charges, but it didn't.

Although I physically loaded only 50 rounds... I must have thrown 100 charges trying to get a +- charge... Never happened....

Best damn $20 i have spent this year....

Mine seems to throw about 12 to 15 or so and then throws an odd ball or two with Varget or H4895. I have been checking every one because I am paranoid about blowing up one of my guns. It is very good with Win 231 for my pistol loads though.

I did order an RCBS Charge Master 1500 the other day. Checking every charge got old for me and I found one for $285 so I got one on the way.

Out of curiosity have you tried using a baffle with it? I don't personally, but I heard they are an excellent cheap way to maintain consistent charges.

I have not heard of this until just now.

If you're talking just a basic 'tent' like deal in the bottom of the hopper, yeah, I use a baffle in my Perfect as well as the thrower on my Dillon 500.  Just helps the powder filter down into the chute/disk better.

yes this is what I was referring too. They can be had for $10 or so i believe. I have heard that they disperse the powder weight evenly in the hopper and therefore allow more consistent charges. I would like to get one for my progressive set up. What the hell for ten bux.

Lee's cheap measure throws Varget so well I almost think it was made for that powder.
