So I'm looking at getting a progressive reloader and I've kinda narrowed my search to these 2. The question is which do I get? The Load master is enticing because I want to load a lot of different rounds of ammo ranging from large pistol ammo to .223 through 50 bmg. I currently load 44 mag, 22-250, 270, 30-06, 300 win mag, soon to be 45 acp and .223, and 50 bmg. Not to mention all the inbetween calibers that I seem to keep picking up here and there and wind up reloading.
Here's what my research has dug up. The load master will load pretty much everything, except the 50 bmg, though it doesn't seem to always have a shell feeder for all calibers. The Pro 1000 will only handle pistol or rifle cartriges under 2 5/16" in length. This excludes most of the larger rifle calibers. Reviews for the Pro 1000 seem to be really good whereas the Load Master doesn't have quite as good of reviews. It seems people either love it or hate it, there's no middle ground. My primary use is pistol calibers, 22-250 and soon to be .223. The Load Master will do everything but I would end up buying loader plates for each round. The 1000 won't even do the large rounds. I don't load a lot of the large caliber rifle rounds as they are only used for hunting. I can keep using my single stage for the large calibers but I do want a progressive reloader for my 22-250. So back to my original question. Do I get a 1000 or a Load master? Anybody with any experience on this? |

Your answer: IF you 're only getting one press, the LEE Pro 1000 will not handle 50 BMG. And, double check if the Load Master will (I doubt it). So, unless you plan on buying a new press.........forgetaboutit. Aloha, Mark |

The loadmaster is twice the press the 1000 is. If you are going to purchase a Lee the choice is obvious. Now, having said that, you need to determine whether or not you want to have to put up with slight problems now and then. Lee can make great ammo but it can be a little like chitty chitty bang bang once in a while. I you are old enough to get my point you are laughing right now. Otherwise, long story short, you need patience and expect a hiccup every now and then. |

I would buy some extra priming parts. |
