Have a Safariland drop leg on my right thigh (high).
Have US Grunt Gear stuff, 3 AR mags in a simple chest rig, have an Infidel war belt with a double AR/double pistol pouch on the belt. Have 2 suppressors on the way I'd like to mount on the belt or chest rig, and I want to grab an IFAK. Running out of real estate on the Infidel war belt, was wondering if a leg rig on my left leg was an okay idea instead of buying a new chest rig/plate carrier. Idea is room for 2 more AR mag pouches, for the hell of it. |

I wouldn't but it depends on what works for you.
I'm not a fan of drop legs. I find they're annoying, cumbersome (snag doorways and stuff on entry) and feel like they weigh my leg down. On my chest rig, I want to be able to carry at least 6 mags, an IFAK and utility pouch. Whether I carry that many mags or not is another matter. If a chest rig doesn't have that much real estate, then I'd get a bigger one. I usually have some pistol mags, surefire, dump pouch and holster on my battle belt. When I tried 30 rd AR mags, they dug into my plate carrier, my side, etc. Twenties were ok but I basically gave up on AR mags on my belt. |
| I have some of the DBT drop panels in both the straight molle setup and the dump pouch/pistol or rifle setusp. I usually just put a triple pistol mag pouch high on one of the molle rigs to keep as much weight off as possible. It seems to work pretty well and has the added benfit of having IIIA soft armor in it. Actually I think it can take thin (steel) level III 4.5x6" plate too, but those are hard to find. I usually just use the left side one so I dont have to thread my holser on to the other panel for the right. The downside is that are a little big and you have to break them in before they fit well. If you are thinking about loading them up with crap, forget about it. It's horibly uncomfortable. |

Glad someone got good use from that design but it wasnt me! OP Im not a fan of leg rigs, Id rather upgrade the chest rig. Its been my experience that leg rigs chafe, get caught on things and generally slow me down too much. |
| Two rifle mags really isn't much. I have a drop panel with two double mag pouches on it, it's not awful. I wouldn't want to run a marathon with it, or wear it milling about for hours on end, and going to ground hard on the left side is somewhat unpleasant with it there, but its more comfortable prone than a fat chest rig, everything's a compromise. The double mags do make you wider in a spot that's harder to adapt to, and they will bang on things and flop around some, I would think singles would be considerably less obtrusive. |

Given the alternative I'd prefer no to use them. If I have to then only with as little as possible on them. With the DBT ones breaking them in seems to be key. The board they put in them in front of the soft armor is way to stiff and the rigs themsleves are a bit to big. One they break in they seems to hug the leg a bit better. But I still would put more than one pouch on there otherwise its just too uncomfortable. |
| That thing Costa has from HSGI may be a solution. I have a similar setup made by OSOE, but it is made for 3 rifle mag pouches. I'm debating having him make another made for 2 mag pouches, as I find 3 on the leg annoying as hell, unless you have gorilla legs. I don't. |
