Sad stuff... and now it seems not enough can be found to go and fight in the desert. Thanks Clinton.

Hey, they will be starting up again in 2009. Nobody is taking the socialists seriously. You will get a taste, or shall I say a bad taste, of what is to come in less than 3 weeks. Just watch the rhetoric after the socialists win...

if I'm not mistaken, on paper, regardless of physical configuration, once a machinegun always a machine gun, and cannot be sold through the CMP as such

eta - don't get me wrong, if it ever comes about, I will be in the line with you

that's exactally the reason.... same stupid reason that can render a shoestring a lifelong branding as a machine gun.  it would take a federal law to allow CMP to sell M14's, even semi-auto ones.

Dear god i wish they would.  Shit, i'd settle for them selling M14 parts kits and just buy a stripped lower from fulton or LRB.

And this is a major reason why most of the Army's non-deployed senior leadership is so dead-set against the M14 renaissance that is going on today:  it makes the Army leadership look fickled and speaks ill of a previous administration.  This is simply taboo in the higher echelons of the Armed Services.

There is a bright side to what Clinton did. By destroying all those M14's he got millions of USGI parts to people wanting to build M1A rifles.
Heck, I purchased dozens of parts from CMP when they were selling them, and at a very good price.
If these M14's were still in inventory we would not have all our SA's, LRB's, etc. with USGI parts.
Just a thought.

I was going to apply to the USMA but I have asthma and never grew out of it like the Dr's promised    Now I'm kind of thinking its probably good that I didn't go with the way things are now. Soldiers responsible for buying so much of their own equip, some sorry 'support' at home, and all of the PC treat-terrorists-nice crap is just crazy!

I have heard several times that the M14 will not come back because of high ranking military politics and that is just another thing to add to the pile. The image that I have of service men is one that I hold in great esteem. I am totally bewildered how whiny little men could slither into those positions without being able to admit when they are wrong.

Personal responsibility! Probably the largest thing our culture lacks today.
