The NFA FAQ should answer a lot of your questions.

The burst fire option is going to cost you approx $12,000 on top of the others.

A short synopsis:

You will need:

BATFE Form 1 if you plan on building it yourself.

BATFE Form 4 if transferring an existing NFA weapon.

5330.20 citizenship form

CLEO sign-off on your forms if your state requires it for NFA transfers.

At least two fingerprint cards, of a type approved by BATFE (see link above for type).  You may also need finger print cards for your state; varies, not suprisingly, by state.

Somewhat recent passport-type photos (2" x 2", I think).  I use a digital camera and a color photo printer myself.

What to do:

Fill out your forms and get them approved/signed by your state CLEO, if necessary.

After you get your forms back, write a $200.00 check to the BATFE and send the forms to them.

Wait until they approve (hopefully) them and send them back with the tax stamp.

You can not build a burst fire rifle unless you are a Type 2 SOT (IIRC)

You can be a registered lightning link or a registered reciever, both of which alone will cost you in excess of 10K

Lightning links are still under 10K for the time being and if you look hard you can find a RR at about 10K...  DIAS you can forget about.  For me the LL was the way to go.

That's what I figured, when people in passing mention they want a machinegun without coughing up some feathers, then usually they have not paid attn. to what is going on and don't realize what kind of money it takes.

Thats what I did
I had my SBR done for under $1000 tax included, beats the hell out of 10K

Would it be nice to run mag dumps, hell yeah.  But can I afford to drop $30 on a mag dump over and over, hell no

Form 1's are $200.  Form 4's are $5 for an AOW, $200 for everything else.

If that's the case, either CLEO (police chief, sheriff) can sign for you.  Whether they will or not is the question.

There are numerous people who can sign off besied the county sheriff
Look in the FAQ section and I think most of your questions would be answered

True.  He should probably ask about Duval County signoffs in the Florida Hometown forum.
