Do you develop a load for a particular distance,
or Do you develop a load for the longest practical distance and then use it for any shorter distances? |

100 yards, l shoot them to nearly 1100yds, I have never had any surprises.
Everything is chosen with the distance in mind. There is no point in buying high BC bullets to shoot 200yds, there is no point in getting a rifle with a tight twist if you wont be shooting high BC bullets For my .223 I have a 0-200yd load and an 1100yd load. Single feed and mag length(55gr, 90gr) For my Grendel I have a zero-200yd load, a 0- 600 and zero to 1100yd load. Single feed and mag length.(90, 140, 147gr) For my .308 I have 150,155,168,175gr plinker/ short range mag length loads. 185, 200, 210, 215, 230gr long range loads. Single feed and mag length. They all get developed at 100 |

Yes, I develop loads for the intended distance and purpose. When developing the load, I do most of the initial work at 100 to minimize variances caused by wind. Following that, I then move testing out to range to verify. Some bullets do better at longer ranges then others. You need to test them at distance to figure that out. For me... If i have a load/bullet that is good at long distance, it will work great inside of that distance. The inverse is not always the case. |
