I bought some SS109 62 gr. penetraters from a forum member. i've checked the loading data on this forum but don't see a load for the powder i like.  I've got tons of H-335 and would like to continue to use it. Please let me know if you've got a sweet load w/this bullet and H335 powder. I use CCI 450 primers and mixed, but sorted, .223/5.56 cases. LC, Winchester, PMC and the like. Thank you for the help. Also, will any 62 gr. data work?

Sigh.

You bought nothing more than plain vanilla M-855/SS-109 bullets. The steel tip allows them to penetrate steel helmets and other obstacles at greater distances than the M-193 bullet. It does not make them either an AP, or an SAP, bullet.

With that out of the way, there is a lot of data for loading these bullets with H-335, which is a canister grade version of W-844.

While most .223/5.56 brass as a case capacity +/- 0.5 gr, I would still segregate brass, unless you are just blasting. Then load 24.0gr to 25.0gr of H-335 and go blasting.

Thank you for your reply. I only bought these so I'd have a heavier bullet in my stash. The added benefit of cracking through a light blue helmet at 3 or 4 hundred yards is a bit of iceing on the cake. Correct you are, these are nothing special, but I've loaded so many 55 grainers, I wanted a change. Thank you again for heading me in the right direction.

Accurate and Ramshot both publish loads specifically for that bullet:  AA load data Ramshot Load Data

I know it's not what you asked for, but at least it gives you a point of reference for differences in powder charges for M855 vs. other bullets.

Go up to the Tacked Gateway thread, look for my post on SS-109 loads that work for me.

Substract 10% to begin loading, and work up as those are the top loads without pressure signs in my AR.

Excellent, I'll do it, thanks.

They are good bullets, but NOT MATCH grade.
2-2.5" @ 100yds and you are doing good.

This a technical forum, be sure to positively ID the powder you are talking about. Accurate or IMR 4064? It matters.

IMR-4064 is too slow of a burning powder for 223 for the best results.

With the long shape of the powder it's difficult to get down the 22 cal neck of a 223. A drop tube will greatly help with this.

Velocities will be low because you can't get enough powder in the case to reach normal operating pressure.

But the loads will function an AR.

I have loaded IMR-4064 in 223, but only once. Not accurate in the loads I tried anyway.

If it's all you have and can't get any Tac powder (what I recommend you use), you can make some loads that will go bang with IMR-4064.

Good luck

You are going to run out of case capacity well before you get useful velocities.

There are much better choices.

Now that's stating the point in a lot fewer words than me.

AA2230 and IMR4895 worked really well for me.

My SS-109 loads are on the first page of the Gateway post up near the top of the page.
