I have heard you CAN load your m1a with stripper clips.

Are any of you m1a guys doing this regularly?

How difficult is it and do you use reg 762x39 strippers or does the .308, 762x51 take it's own stripper?

Thanks for any info you have.

I have tried this on many occassions and it just seemed more trouble than it was worth. I am sure there is a trick to it, and some old timers would easily put me to shame, but for the the sore thumb just was not worth it.

I just find it easier and quicker to either have some mags pre-loaded or feed them in a handful at a time.

Good, now I don't feel so bad.  I've tried it like 3 times and have not ever accomplished it.  To me, it seems like the stripper clip stops too far above the mag.  Now on my 03A3, piece of cake.

Not very difficult on my well used mags, harder on the new ones.

SKS/AK strippers don't work.

I've done it just to see if it works.  It does.  Not much more exciting than that.

Best for just topping off a Mag.. Easier and faster just to change out an empty Mag for a fresh one.

If you're trying to use the strippers for the '03,, don't bother,, it's gotta be for the M-14,, and, no, it's fairly easy,, at least in my two. But then, I have the right strippers.

It is so hard as to be almost impractical.

Even with the correct clips.

Topping off a mag is easy.

I've fired hundreds of rounds without removing the mag.

Do it all the time with my LRB complete build.  No problems.  I use the stripper clips that came with the canned & bando'ed Aussie F4 7.62x51 ammo a couple of years ago.  The Aussie 5-rd stripper clips are parked and a bit rough to use.  I used a brass brush to clean out some of the park on the inside of the clip and then wiped it down with CLP.  I didn't leave a "wet" coat on the strippers, I wiped them to almost dry.  That seemed to do the trick, haven't had a problem since.

the purpose of the design of the M1A was to not need to use stripper clips in my opinion...thats why it has a detachable magazine...

....so no, I never tried it.  But whatever makes you happy, go for it.

That would explain the stripper clip guide.

sorry if the sarcasm didn't translate correctly...yes I know it has a stripper clip guide,.......I just figure that I would far rather utilize the detachable magazine feature, and have therefore never put any attention or energy to the concept of loading from the stripper clips.

maybe I might be the only person that thinks this way

Yeah, but when they packed the ammo, I'm pretty sure they packed it on stripper clips.  I think they could then carry bandoliers of ammo, much like in wwII and earlier, with stripper clips of 7.62.  Makes sense to me.  So when you run out of your loaded mag ammo.  Just push away.

Although I don't know if all that is for sure or not.

....yes, that was the idea of the stripper clip guide...I was simply answering the initial question as to if anyone was loading with stripper clips...my response was more or less "no, I don't use stripper clips as an M1A shooter...it has a detachable magazine"

I was not trying to debate the design of the M1A nor the purpose of the design,...just answering the mans question...I will go back to the corner now.

I use stripper clips when I use a five round mag (hunting).  Beats trying to get the mag out quickly.

Well you exact words were ," purpose and design".  and followed by something to the degree of not using them.  You seem like you're contradicting yourself.  I don't really care.  I don't plan on using it that way either, but it's really not a horrible idea.  Especially if you don't have like oodles of mags laying around.

I load from stripper clips when I bench shoot with a sand bag. Its easier. Most of the time the rounds slide straight into the mag. However every so often you have to kind of wiggle the stripper clip.
