Hey guys,
I am potentionally moving to Hungary for grad school this year, and have been contemplating on how/where to keep my firearms. I've got several AR15s, some mil-surp rifles, and several handguns. I do not have a gunsafe, nor can I particulary afford one. As it stands I was thinking of either getting a decent Sentry safe or possibly greasing the guns up, and making a burial vault. The alternative is nice because it is affordable, and unless someone knows where to dig, they will never be found/touched. Safe is expensive and will be heavy to move when I do get my own place in the states....

Suggestions?

Family? trusted friends? Somebody that you trust has to have some space under their bed.

My thoughts as well.  I would find someone I trust to keep them and try to find someone that knows about guns so they can ensure your guns are oiled every now and then.

No matter who you leave the guns with grease them up, seal them in those plastic gun bags and lock them in a sturdy container. The last thing you want is to come home to beat up guns because whoever you left them with decided to shoot them.

Any close to cosmoline is a great choice.

I showed a buddy what the dried drips on a nozzle of a Boeshield can looked and felt like.  He's sold on it as the perfect modern metal preservative.  The back of the can lists many applications where it has to last a real long time (insides of metal frames etc.).

PVC pipe workd for burial. There is an artical I read a few years ago about a guy burying an AR and ammo etc. Dug it up 10 years(?) later. All was well and good. He coated the rifle with a protectant and into a bag. Sealed the PVC on both ends with caps and glue.
