I have a camelbak BFM, but want something bigger that I could get maybe a weeks worth of gear in.Any Idea's on something larger then the BFM? Thanks |

If I was going to have a pack on my back for a week I'd get a kifaru, if that's too much money I'd look at civilian packs but I don't know much about those. |

I think you have the largest camelbak, unless you're talking about the mystery ranch packs they are selling as camelbaks If you are really going to have the pack on for a week on foot I would get a kifaru or other pack with a good suspension and belt. If it's a "just in case" pack that will mostly ride behind the front seat of a pick up I would get something more economical. |

I did not know this about the mystery ranch packs, they are listed on the Camelbak site also. The pack would see use and not sit behind the seat. I go out a few times a year during different seasons for a week and test my gear and skills so something a little bigger then the BFM would work great, but I think at a cost of 500+ I might just add some side pouches to the BFM?? |

Camelbak makes nothing larger than the BFM. The Mystery Ranch packs are made by Mystery Ranch, which was bought by Camelbak last year. It sounds like you're looking in the 3,000 c.i. range. If you want cheap, get a used Large ALICE pack and frame set up. Around 3600 c.i. A Kifaru Zulu is also around that size, with the Navigator the next size up (I have the latter and had the former. Great packs). Most of the gear companies are making assault-pack sized packs, which are in the 2000-2500 c.i. But what you really need to figure out is, what does "a week's worth of gear" mean to you? To some, it might be 3 tshirts, a change of BDUs/pants, 4 pair of underwear, 7 pair of socks, a stove, some food, a sleeping bag, etc. For others, it might also include jammies, hats, gloves, and a whole lot more. Here's your homework: Get all the gear you think you need for that week. Get a box just big enough to hold it. Then measure the box to get the volume (if it doesn't have the H/W/L printed on it). That's a good point Tim, I can get everything I need for a week in my BFM, EXCEPT....food, I can only get about 2 days of food in there (read it as MRE)...Maybe just need to re0rganize my pack. |
