Could someone recommend a scope mount for a M1A SOCOM? I don't want junk, but am not looking for top of the line either. Functional is good enough.
Oh, and input on rings would be appreciated too. I'm new to this scopes and optics world. Thanks for any input. |

You can generally find the Springfield Armory mounts for $45-$65.
SA Mount A good step up would be one of the Sadlak Mounts. They vary in price based on material; I bought a used aluminum one off the EE for $125: Sadlak Prices If you're not aware - there are some good discussions on the SOCOM and M1A/M14 optics on the M14 Forum: M14 Forum |

Use quality rings... you will need a cheek riser. |

Springfield has a number of differing mounts that have additional contact points based off the generation (version) of the mount. The one I linked to is an early mount with what looks like two contact points, the receiver groove and the knob that tightens the mount to the rifle's receiver. As Springfield upgraded the mounts, they added additional contact points to stabilize the mount and offer the shooter less movement and more accuracy. Springfield is up to their 4th generation mount that has three contact points with the receiver and two screw knobs for added stability (receiver and stripper clip guide). The Smith and Sadlak mounts also have the additional contact points to aid stability. The cost differences are the materials and the time it takes to machine the material into the mount. |
