OK, this has probably been beaten to death, but I did a search and didn't find anything except ads in the EE.

What's the best scope mount for an M14?  Specifically for my M14S.  ARMS #18?  Smith Enterprises?  Brookfield Precision?  Or something else I haven't heard about?

I'm planning on mounting a 3-9 Leupold Tactical on it...

I vote for Sadlak.

EDIT: Excellent selection for the scope, Leupold is the only way to go.

Smith & Sadlak are popular.  Why are they better than the ARMS?

I've installed a few Brookfields and lots of Smiths and ARMS mounts, just saw my first SADLAK.  Looks like a good mount.  I prefer the Brookfield, followed by the Smiths.  I'd buy a Smith only if I can't find a Brookfield.  Frankly, all these others are either copies or variations on the Brookfield mount.  That mount is the most solid mount out there (no, I don't work for any of these companies).  The Smith is the closest to the Brookfield design.  It locks up tight, no play, but it can be a bit tricky to install correctly so the entire mount sits exactly above the bore axis.  Not hard to do, just requires some attention to detail.  The ARMS mount, while a good mount, in my opinion is not built to the same attention to detail and strength that are found in Brookfield and Smith mounts.  I'd rate it as one step up from the S.A. Generation 3 mount.

I just purchased a sadlak from west texas armory. Very affordable. It mounted without any issues on my M1A scout.  I fired about 600 rounds with it mounted with no movement what so ever with a 3x12x50mm scope on it with a jpoint. I have arms 22 low rings on top of it. I couldnt be more happy.

Do any of these scope mounts allow you to still use the iron sights?

As above, P/N 7002 & 2006 from SEI: the hands down choice of GI's everywhere.  These NSN items are the way to go.  I have both the 2006 & the 2008 mounts for my 18" & 22.00" SEI builds.  Flawless.

OK, We all do not have the cash for a Smith,,So,,here is THE BEST FOR LESS!! $145.00.  A Sadlak, It is the best deal today for the money and they will stand behind their products.

Hi Screech

We have over 100 of the Aluminum Scope Mounts in use by customers, even a few troops deployed in Iraq.  To date, we have had no negative observations about this mount.

The aluminum mount is manufactured to the exact same specifications as the steel and titanium models except for the alloy and finish coating.  We use a heat treated 7075 Aircraft grade aluminum with a black hardcoat finish.

We send the receiver inspection kit with these mounts as well as the other models and we can custom fit to your specifications if required.

Let me know if I can answer any other questions.

Best regards.

You can still can use irons if you use a 40mm scope. If you use a 50mm you cannot. But you can just get arms 22 rings to resolve that if its an issue. Heres a few pics of mine with the sadlak and a 50mm scope.

Thanks! I was thinking of setting up one with an ACOG, either a 3.5 or a 5.5, but I'd like to still be able to use irons if needed.

I like my ARMS mount but it does look crude compared to others mentioned!

I will bring it out to class friday for you to look at.
