What are typical 100yard groups for a M1A national match?  Can they shoot decent groups long range (800+ yards)?

Depends on who builds it. There are lots of different "national match" M1A's out there. Some will shoot a minute out to 1000 yards. Some will never.

At the very least it should shoot 1.5 minutes out to 600

My  walnut stocked, SA M1A with the SS barrel will hold the 10 ring at 1000yds. The only thing I did was bed the receiver.

yup, maybe better with someone else pulling the trigger. I've only shot it at 200 and 1000yds, and its been 2 years since I last shot it.  Maybe it could do better as I've learned more since I last shot it. The 36 minutes up on the rear sight makes for a cheek weld that literally splits my lip open with each shot, so I'd rather shoot the AR.

I got a fat lip the first time I shot an M1A.  My loaded had the fat stock on it and I didn't put my thumb on the heal of the receiver.  So my thumb beat my right lip up pretty good.  Now I point that thumb a little more forward.  I know some people use it as a guide, but to me, it hurts.

You going to shoot in the M14 match at perry?
