| Hey guys, I'm looking to get into some long range shooting in .308 (500-700 yards). I was set on a Remington 700 LTR however they are pretty hard to find now. I already have a Leupold Mark 4 LRT 3.5-10X scope and am looking into a Springfield M1A possibly. What models and what kind of 100 yard group sizes with a stock gun am I looking at? I am gonna keep the price below $1500. Any other basic suggestions for me? Thanks a lot for the info! |

Here in the Rockies you can buy a loaded M1A for around $1600 plus $250-$350 for a decent scope mount. Group size will depend 99% on whether or not you handload and if you can shoot. If the answer is yes to questions one and two, your MKIV telescope on a match-barreled M1A would make you a very dangerous man. |

I have yet to own a Spring Inc M1A rifle that will not consistently shoot 1 MOA scoped and 3 MOA iron sighted out to 300 meters with good quality ammunition and I have owned several over the years and currently own three.
You can get the rifles sub MOA but it takes some work and maintenence to keep them shooting at this level. |
