This probably one of those once a week questions so I apologize.

Where do I look for non-permanent cheek rest for my M1A ?

I'd like something that will create a good cheek weld for a Gen I Springfield mounted scope.

Thanks

Plenty of them out there.  Made from Kydex, nylon and leather.  Some are adjustable and some are not.

Tactical Night Vision Company makes a nice nylon one...

Bradley makes a Kydex adjustable one.

Google M14 cheek rest and there will be others.

One of my military shooters made a cheek rest for his M-14 from a padded knee pad and duct tape. Add or take off some to get exactly what you want. You'll lose "Coolness" points with the wannabe shooters; however, you will get a functional cheek rest and improved scope use. Just a suggestion.

I have to admit, I just built up mine with a sock and some black Gorilla tape.  I didn't do it overly high though because I still wanted to use the irons.  But it helps.

I just dropped the coin on a TNVC and love it.

this is the route I went and don't think I could be any happier.  Only advice I can give on the install or any mods to it is this.  When securing it to the stock hold it firmly at the top/padded part while snugging up the straps.  This is what I found that kept it from moving cockeyed on me.  Only mod is take and cut a piece of para cord and melt the ends.  Then tape to the inside of the dope card flap to use a a cheek weld reference if you have a problem maintaining the same cheek weld as I do.  This is something I have to do with almost every scoped rifle.

Thanks for the idea. I used a Cooper elbow pad left over from my roller hockey days. My son had a rough day afield with the rifle deer hunting. This was before I put the cheek rest on. This past weekend I test fired the rifle. I shot a 5 shot group with 147gr fmjs ( my hand load using WC-844 powder) at 50yards. The group was 1" above POA and could be covered with a nickel.

At 100 yards the hunting load was only about an inch higher that where we intended it.

Could the lack of decent cheek weld have made a substantial difference in POI ?

Made mine with two layers of cut up insul pad ( closed cell foam) and  tape, ugly but works.
