So I recently bought my first M1A.  I took it out yesterday and put a couple of boxes through it, resulting in a good battle zero with a respectable five shot group at 200 meters.  I want to mount a scope on it, probably an Aimpoint, but I'd like to keep my options open for the future in case I want to go with a magnified scope.  It looks like the leading choices for mounts are the Sadlak and the A.R.M.S.  I am leaning toward the sadlak because it allows you to still use your sights, and because I have seen reports of occasional malfunctions caused by the ARMS mount.  So, my questions are two:

1) Which mount should I go with?

2) Assuming it is the Sadlak, which one do I want?  Steel?  Aluminum?  Titanium?

Thanks.

You might want to look a the Bassett mount.  Comes in two heights.  Low supposedly won't need a cheek piece, high will.  They  claim the ability to return to within 1/2" of zero if properly reintalled after removal.

My scout squad has a sadlak titanium mount and I am pleased with it. Factory sights are visible and the mount is solid. Mounted to it are vortex precision rings and a vortex viper PST 2.5-10x44. Extremely happy with this setup.

Which model M1A do you have ? If you currently have one with the forward rail on it ? Take a look at this

Can we get a pic?  Sounds really nice.

I have the Smith Enterprises mount and it is built like a tank.  Weighs as much as one also.  I'm pretty sure the scope won't move at all, but it is very heavy.

I don't have a titanium one, but if it is significantly lighters, I'd be all for it.

Pics please !!! Eventually my Scout will move from my Burris Scout scope ( Great scope ) to a traditional rear mounted higher power scope for 600 or more yards. Right now I love the current set up.

This thread reminds me that I've got a LRB M25 receiver in the safe, yet to be built into a rifle.

They will also custom build you a mount if your receiver is out of spec. Good people, solid mounts.

I will take some better pictures next time i am at the range. I wanted a short/low profile scope and mount and I am pleased with the setup.

Damn nice rifle my friend. How far have you shot it out to ? I'm not going the chassis route but I'm going to upgrade from a CQB to medium range into a long distance set up like yours.

Nice rifle.  What stock is that?  The only Sadlak mount that seems to be in stock is the aluminum version.  I guess I will wait for the steel or titanium to become available.  My rifle is a Standard.  I am considering buying  GI stock and having it cercoated.

I'm a fan of the Sadlak Airborne Steel mount. Very nice product and stays put! My setup is the airborne mount, Mark IV 3.5-10, and Mark IV medium height rings. Great setup for the price.

Nice rifle !!!!! Are you going to throw a bipod on it or keep it as light as is possible with an M1A

Thanks! I've actually gone ahead and added a Harris s-brm but have yet to shoot it with a bipod. I was able to hit 440 yard 2/3 size torso targets with reasonable consistency. It's just a standard as well with no accurizing mods... yet.

Rifle already weighs as much as a Mk12, so a bipod won't hurt
