I am curious as to your in-put on selecting M1As. I want a standard barrel length, classic M1A style. I want to have the option of either Irons or scope so I can shoot what I feel on any particular day.

Is Sprinfield Armory the best way to go? they have some nice looking rifles, but I hear alot about "GI" M1As.

I dont know much about the M1A, I just know they look damned good and will be an addition to my US Military patterned weapons.

The "Lavern" in the pictures thread is beautiful!

It depends on what you want to spend.  A "Standard" 22" barrel M1A can be had for around $1300-$1400.00 new.  Springfields have a lifetime warranty.

An LRB custom built rifle, which is very close to USGI, will be $2200.00 or more and unless you find an individual selling one, the wait is long.

I'd recommend starting with a PROVEN (i.e. not messed up by someone else) used M1A until you decide whether or not you like the platform.

Good luck and good shopping!

Have you looked into the civilian marksmanship program for your M1? Link is attached.

The OP said M1A not M1 Garand.

If the CMP was selling M1A's you would start a riot.

LOL, yeah M1A...
I have a CMP Garand (DANE VAR), M1903, M1 carbine and a puny stash of about 1.3 K M2 ball from them as well.

Riot my ass, if the CMP was selling M14's, or legal semi M14's anyway, you'd start a revolution!

It'd be like a steak truck crashing in Haiti!
