How does Win 748 compare with varget concerning accuracy?

I've never loaded with either, and I've never loaded for my M1A, so any additional advice on reloading for this thing is appreciated. I want to work up loads for the 150 or 165 grn sst (hunting)  and the 168 grn hpbt (range).

Skip 748 and use Varget or IMR 4895 or 4064.  RL15 not shabby choice......I have never had decent accuracy in the 308 with 748.
Keep the brass for the M1A seperate from your other guns's brass.  I would set the FL to set the shoulder back (use precision mic) a few thousandths to ensure reliable chambering.  This will increase your case life.

That is exactly what I'm getting set up to do. I'm glad I'm on the right track. I think I'm going with varget. Thanks for the answers, you put my mind at ease!

RN knows what hes talking about.

and yeah, keep the brass seperate from brass you use with other rifles.

i only get 3 safe firings out of my M1A. then the brass needs to go. im sure if i learn how to set the shoulders properly i could get more life out of the brass but im still in the learning process.

I use AA2520 and makes a great load for my match M1-A1.I tried the RCBS X die thinking that it may make the diffterence,it did not these guys speak the truth of case life and head separations ect.It gets hammered coming out after three times and I was able to get four reloads with 1993 LC Match due to the reliable brass but it was shit after that and right in the melt pail
