Are there any brands/makes of clips that are better the others? What ones are reliable? What ones should I stay away from?

I am new to M1 Garands (just got a service grade SA from CMP)

I want to get bunch of clips for it.  I bought a can of the greek surplus in the clips, I have heard that they don't work to well.

Check out JimScharf's answer in this post. It is the JMO enblocs that seem to cause the most problems, and that mainly when they are reloaded with USGI ammo.

I've had my CMP Garand for about 5 years now. I have only used the Greek clips but even though I reuse them, I've never had a problem with them. I'm certainly no expert though.

That's pretty much the same for me. I got my first Garand almost 4 years ago and have only used Greek clips with 0 issues. I'd say stick with the ones you've gotten from the CMP unless you run into issues. Most of the issues I've heard of weren't even the clips themselves though, but rather clip ejector springs and the like needing replaced.

I agree with JKnight.  Try the ones you have first and she how it runs.
The ones I got from the CMP where marked SF (French made) and didn't seem to be that reliable.
To answer your question: AGE (1 or 2), SA or BRW seem to be good from what others have said. I got a dozen of mixed AGE 1 and AGE 2 that work great.

There's a guy in the M14 section of the EE with Garand clips for a dollar each+ shipping. I ordered 15 from him, sent payment today. Listing says they're marked AGE 1 or AGE 2. I've got several with the same markings and they work fine. Near the bottom of the first page of the M14/M1A section of the equipment exchange. Not a bad price and shipping fee is actual cost instead of adding "handling fees"(reasonable handling fees are fineto make up for things like seller's time packaging or fuel to travel to post office IMO but some sellers try to use them to compensate for selling items for a low price by raping the buyer when it comes time to ship.) Anyway, the seller's got a bunch more clips left-when I bought the listing said he had 58, so he's got 43 left available unless more have sold since. Not sure what mods' opinions are of linking to EE ads so I left the link out.

I've been using the Greek clips in my M1's with no issues (SA's and H&R's).  I've used the HXP ammo and reloads in HXP brass and commercial brass.  But, guns can be different (and usually are)  so you have to try yours to make sure.

In addition to what everyone else has said:

Sometimes people have had problems with the Greek en blocs because of the heavy parkerizing on the Greek en bloc clips. Once you start using them and wear down some of the parkerizing, they're fine. (Based on other peoples' experiences posted on the CMP Forums.)

And I'll repeat what JKnight said: A lot of times it's the springs. Whenever you get a Garand from CMP, the first thing you should do is replace all of the springs (clip spring, op rod spring). You have to figure that all of these rifles have springs in them that are at least 30 or 40 years old (sometimes older). I got a beautiful SA Garand with an original WWII Winchester barrel from a friend for a very good price. He wanted to get rid of it because it had problems with ejection of the clip. I replaced the clip spring and it has run 100% ever since.

And to echo what others have said, I have never had any issues with the Greek en bloc clips myself.

Hope the info helps.

I have never had a problem with the Greek clips.  However, my last purchase was from Bill Ricca who has NIW USGI clips for $2.00.

I haven't found a clip that look ok that didn't work.  USGI, Greek or Danish.

Personally, I would NEVER pay over .50 cents for clips in today's money.  I remember when the CMP sold boxes of 450 clips for something like 45 dollars.  These were supposed to be rusty and alot were.  I wish i would have bought more then one box.  I like to be able to put all my garand ammo in clips and I have way more ammo then clips right now.  Last time I checked, I had like 600-700 clips and I need more.

I have bought the Greek Ammo and I have not had one problem with the greek clips in any of my 6 garands.  Buy the CMP ammo with the clips as it is the best thing going.  If you have problems with the clips, cull those ones out and put them on the EE @.50 cents each with a note that you had problems with them.  Someone will buy them.

I like the following clips that I have: ACE, DAQ, unmarked danish clips, BW marked clips, any USGI clips.  The DAQ and Danish clips (from the danish surplus that was out years ago) are my favorites followed by the ACE clips and then the USGI's.
