So I took the plunge and ordered 2 M1 Garand's, both service grade, from the CMP. I plan to have one or both "refurbished". Is there anything I should avoid that would reduce value? I was thinking about just having them re-parked and maybe put on a new stock. Is there anything else you guys recommend, and where do you suggest having the work done? Thanks in advance. |
I was kind of thinking the same thing, that's why I decided to buy two. I can fix one up and leave the other alone. Where do you find the Australian SA INC M1s? |
I saw their package deals and it looks pretty pricy. They don't list what it includes, however. Do you know what work is done? |
Take them out and shoot them. If they shoot well, leave them alone. I have 8 from CMP, none have been, nor will be going to, be "restored". Like bigbore says, they lose something when you do that. |

I'm working on my rack and field grade. Simple reason is one was a dane without a stock and the other had a stock that I have to bed to get any kind of lockup, plus the handguards were cracked. I am slowly replacing parts on them to bring them back to WW2 condition(plus accumulating spare parts |
A few months ago I sent Dean a box of worn out parts and a stripped receiver. A few months later he sent this back to me: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() and it shoots like a champ. ![]() It did not come cheap however. I bought a barrel and stock from him, along with the work he did on the rifle. My total bill was around $1100 for everything. What this got me was the Wenig stock with the Type 2 finish (usgi style), a barnett-douglas match barrel, a rebuild on my oprod and the park work on all the parts. I am EXTREMELY happy with the results, and it is my prettiest M1! |
