Nice writeup, but....

Garand was born in St. Rémi, Quebec in a French Canadian family, and moved as a child to rural Connecticut.

Some Canucks may argue the claim.  LOL  

My reply would be his skills came as an American.  Like most of us we came here, and then became great and did great things.

One of our own as much as my great great grandfathers were.
He was somewhat underappreciated in his day.  Interesting if all true.
