What does a "P" in a box mean if it is on the pistol grip of the stock?

could it possibly mean arsenal refinish at San Antonio Arsenal?  If so when was this done?  Barrel is 1950.

Yes, probably done in the early 60's.

Is the SAA in one line like I typed, or is it a SA with an A under it, and a partical box around it? SAA could be San Antonio, the SA with a A under it and partical box, would be Springfield Armory the A under it is the initial of the last name of the foreman of the shift it was rebuilt on, for the early fifty's rebuild program. Who knows that rifle could have been in Korea... with a 1950 barrel on it i'd say it was rebuilt sometime in '50-'51, at least once...

Also do not take those stock cartouches for granted and whatever you do don't sand or remove any of them from that stock.  They are considered quite valuable in and of themselves by collectors.  In fact, don't clean it at all.  If you actually intend to shoot the rifle order a Boyd's stock and put that one away.
