When I was a younger Marine, with kids in diapers, I sold a nice Garand with a SA 63NM barrel and a trigger group the match armorers at Quantico worked over for me. It was sweet but I needed money and someone in Beaufort SC helped me part with it, hey I made $200 more than I had in it. Anyway, now I'm an older retired Marine and the youngest is leaving for Parris Island this summer so I'm thinking about another Garand to keep all of my black rifles company.
I don't need a match rifle but I want something that'll shoot well. How's most of the stuff coming out of the CMP stores looking? Semper Fi, Old Marine

Get a Service Grade from the CMP and you won't be disappointed. I concur on going to pick one out yourself but even if you have the CMP mail you one, you will get a good shooter from the Service Grade category. You could surprise that future Marine of yours with a Garand as a graduation present Semper Fi |

I have a better idea for you, next time your son is home on leave, plan a trip to anniston with him. Pick out a pair of Garands, one for him and one for yourself. You keep them both till he settles down. When he comes home on leave you can as a pair go out and play with the Garands, makes for some great one on one time. I did the same for my Nephew who is a Navy FMTB Corpsman, when he comes home out come the Garands, both of us look forward to that time together. |
