OK, let me get this straight. If I install one of the adjustable gas plugs(McCann or Schuster)in my rifle, I can shoot any .30-06 ammo through my Garand. Is this correct?
Thanks.

I think what you are refering to is an adjustable plug in your gas M1 garand gas cyclinder. Match shooter use it to fine tune their rifles.

OK, thanks. That doesn't really answer my question though. Does it make it possible to shoot any .30-06 ammo (read:commercial) without harming the op rod?

Yep, that's one of the advantages.

If it's not correct, I'm in for some aggravation. I'm using a Schuster in mine and have gone through about two boxes of Remington Core-Lokt 165gr SPs. Had to tweak it a little to get the cycling right but it seem to like commercial just fine now. I still shoot primarily M2 ball but I like having the option.

Of course, I leave the issue plug in because you can't mount the bayonet with the adjustable in place. And, I mean, what's the point of having a Garand if you can't use the pig-sticker....

Thank you. I too shoot surplus M2 ball, but I want the option of using commercial ammo, especially since I'm considering using my Garand to hunt with this year. And, after all, surplus .30-06 is not going to be around forever. I know, I know, I need to start reloading.

ETA: Why can't you use the bayonet with the adjustable plug in place?
