My father has a m1 and the bolt stays in battery after a shot is fired no bolt movement at all. He has left the gun with me and has no clue how to fix it. Any ideas on what is wrong would help. Thanks |

Sorry it is an m1 Garand and the bolt does not cycle at all it is acting like single shot rifle. No bolt movement. Sorry i was slow to get back to yall. I know basicly nothing about these rifles I am more of an ar guy. That being said I would love to own one myself |

The Garand works on the same basic princable as the AR, as far as it uses gas pressure from the burned powder to operate the bolt. There is a hole in the barrel to let gas bleed into the gas cylinder which pushes on the operating rod. I would look at the hole in the barrel to see if it is plugged. Make sure the gas cylinder plug is there and tight. Measure the gas cylinder and operating rod to check for wear. The operating rod should have a slight bend in it but check to see if it is bent too much. It sound like the bolt is free or you wouldn't be shooting it. Once you shoot it how does the empty case eject? Can you pull the bolt back and it comes right out or do you have to get aggressive pulling the bolt back? Here is an exploded view. http://www.biggerhammer.net/manuals/garand/expl-vue.htm |
bolt ejects round smoothly |
