Is there any difference between the 12 ga and 20 ga M2 charging handles other than their length?

In other words, will I see any issues using a 12 ga CH in a 20 ga gun?

My casual inspection of mine leads me to the conclusion that the 12 is just a smidgen longer.

Is the 12 ga handle longer in overall length, or in the section that fits into the bolt?

The factory bolt handles have a shoulder to fit into the oval on the bolt and keep the handle from spinning around.  If the 12 handle fits into the bolt's oval and does not stick through the other side – or contact the bolt at the handle's shoulder and prohibit the detent from engaging you should be OK.

(Some after market handles do away with the shoulder all together and in that case I'd say 12 or 20 does not matter. Nordic Components sells the same handle for both 12 and 20 ga M2)

The 12 ga "handle" fits into the same slot on the bolt as the 20 (this prevents rotation).  The part that goes through the bolt is a little longer on the 12.

I've installed my GG&G 12 ga handle on my 20; the detent still works and the only thing I can see different is it will stick out a little farther.

Good to know the Nordic one is advertised for 12 or 20.

It seems to function fine in the 20; will take it to the range to test for real.

The Nordic will work in both.... I did find out the hard way with my wife's 20 m2 that it will come out rather easily.....

We spent about a half an hour looking for it one day after if fell out. I suspect it got caught on her hand when she manual cycled a shell in and pulled out rather than just falling out, but it still comes out pretty easy.

The 12ga is marginally longer, but due to the way they're designed, a bolt handle without the anti-rotation lobe will still work fine in either, as you mention.
