Me and a buddy picked up a pair of m44 mosin nagants earlier this week. Got around 1k of rounds and about 20 stripper clips. We loaded about 10 of the strippers and tried to load the gun up, but they just wouldn't go. I've got an sks, so i've loaded stripper clips before, but this just wouldn't go in. I lined up the clip and slid it to lock into position right above the magazine chamber, but those rounds just wouldn't come out and wouldn't go in.

I was wondering if you guys had any advice or ideas as to what we're doing wrong?

People have problems with these.  Some of the clips are faulty and contribute to this problem.

I have some that work kind of.  You have to push down on the cartridge very near the clip.

I'll bet you have the new production pieces don't you? They have a poor reputation, although I've gathered they can sometimes be tweaked into working.

You'll have to find genuine Russian clips if you want clips that work well. I suppose other comblock clips would work too.

I'm holding out for the real thing myself. I just haven't made it a priority yet. I guess you can find them on ebay.

Well, that certainly sounds about right. Tons of problems, so i'm assuming they're new manufacture. Anyone happen to have a line on where some older production / working ones can be gotten; everywhere i seem to look they're all looking like the new junky ones I've got now.

Check the EE or EBay.

Press down with your thumb while holding the tip of the top round up with your index finger and press the rounds into the magazine.  Thats the trick to using Mosin strippers.

I never could get mine to work properly. Nearly cut my hand more than once. The clips are usually too tight. You are loading the stripper correctly, right?

This method works with mine everyone in a while. I don't see them "wearing in" anytime soon.

With Mosin Nagant strippers, you are best off to locate arsenal marked Russian strippers. Chi-com copies and the like are more miss than hit as far as making them fully functional.

Yep, the Russians nailed that bent piece of steel, and no one either can duplicate them now just right or they just don't seem to care

Yes, the copies of the originals don't work well for me.  I looked around and found some old surplus ammo loaded on strippers.  Not to expensive and they work really well.  Some people have luck with the copies made and sold by uglycarfan on ebay, but mine just bent and binded up. (They are made of brass while the originals are made of steel.)
