I am trying to find a recipe for m885a1 bullets using cfe223.  Not the green tip but the bronze tip.

I saw a YouTube video where a guy disected a round and pulled 25.7 grains of some powder.

I know m885a1 is hot and I'm trying to stay away from that.

I use TAC by Ramshot.  Have a look at their data sheet on the googles.

My tips have no color, but they are steel core 62 grain bullets.

I mainly load them toward the more conservative end, yet with enough juice to insure they cycle all of my AR platforms.

Some powder manufacturers list .223 loads and 5.56x45mm loads separately.

I got a little over 2,800 FPS with 26.5 grains of CFE223 and the M855A1 bullets.

So are the M855A1 bullets still running over $1.00/bullet? I remember std M855 bullets hitting that briefly during the ATF scare recently. I should have sold mine, I have over 1000 new IMI M855 bullets.

BTW, velocity is an important part of making them effective against light armor.

Yes, going rate for projectiles is about $1/rd and going rate for loaded M855A1 is about $2/rd.

I agree, if you want this to work as an effective penetrator you have to keep velocity up.  Still, it isn't nearly as velocity dependent for penetration as M193 and M855.  That is evidenced by the fact M855A1 will punch a level III steel armor plate from a 14.5" barrel.

If you want to punch AR500 armor and level III plates while also performing well in flesh and maintaining excellent accuracy, it's the only game in town.

Thread turned into a "where to find" thread.

If you want to ask "where to find", do so in the tacked thread at the top of the page.

Once the hot link got quoted, too much to edit out so it's easier to lock the thread.

Think about that before quoting things that you know will get the thread locked.
