I have spotted a very nice, almost unissued, M96 Swede Mauser for sale for a very good price.  It has one thing that has me stumped from buyin it.  The barrel in front of the front sight is threaded.  I have never seen this before and my "Bubba" red flags went up.  Is this a feature on some of the Swedes?

It's normal, there is a "bullet shredder" which looks like a flash hider for firing wooden bullets.

This. Many M96 barrels are threaded for the bullet shredder. My 1899 Oberndorf was re-barreled at some point in its career by the arsenal, and the "new" barrel is threaded.

Normal,  I have one of each (threaded, non-threaded)  .  The vast majority I have seen are threaded.
