| Anybody have any experience with a mars sight? I have a chance to pick one up for $500. |

Israeli design and manufacture, no idea on what type/level of support you can expect to receive, particularly for the IR version. AFAIK, similar in concept to the Insight ISM, which wasn't terribly successful either. I know some people have had them, and seem to have thought highly of them, but they're not common. ~Augee |

It eats batteries. Yea it's only AA but it will eat them. Also a little bulky compared to an eotec as the unit over all is larger but the viewing area is smaller with a thick frame around it.
Current optic that gets decent reviews and is the replacement to the Mars is the mepro I say this as I do own both the Mars and the mepro |

I haven't had too much problems with it eating batteries but I don't get a lot of use in. Glass is really good. Laser and red dot both are moved at the same time which is really nice. The height of the optic is a little higher than the standard Aimpoint T1 or ACOG height so your magnifiers or clip on's will not match up with it. Nice deal for $500 |

Oh a few other things: The mount has some quick detach lever thingies, but the return to zero is not so good on mine. Always shifts a couple of MoA. The red dot can go low enough to be PVS-14 friendly, but keep in mind that it turns off when the laser turns on. (I can't imagine that this would be an issue in any situation but just an FYI) The pressure switch is super heavy duty, but it does not detach and you probably can't find extensions for it. |
