what do you want to know about it? TimW at PRACTICAL TACTICAL is the only vendor supplying these... they are made by HSGI, Made of a exceedingly stiff mesh material that FAR exceeds the needs of airsofters, and takes a fair bit to 'soften' up. Patterned after the South African 83 Vest, if you have a neck larger than 17 inches, then you runn a good chance of having the inner neck edge abrading into the sides of your neck. About as good as you're gonna get on a platform cloned from the original. the internal pistol slot is a nice touch, combined with HSGIs usual level of bombproof construction, a good investment. EGG |
| Well, either way, a vest with such a gap down the middle is something I would not recommend. The others HSGI gear ont the site looks put together a lot better. But some people don't mind the gap, its up to this individuals personal preference. Depends what they will be using it for, but from my experience, have buckles down the middle risk being damaged when low crawling in prone. Not to metion the dirt or sand that will get caught between your BDUs and vest. |

If you're in a situation where got to crawl <fatbastard>on ya belly </fatbastard> the LAST thing you should worry about is busted buckles! That being said, unless you have direct experience with the rig in question then I would advise against letting comment on something you know nothing about. THAT being said, this vest is patterned after a PROVEN combat design... perhaps you've heard of it... South African Pattern 83 Ammunition vest. IT does do the job for those people who want a modular vest platform if you dont like vests, then this isnt going to do anything for you if you dont like buckles up the middle.. then this isnt going to do anything for you if you dont like modularity, then this isnt going to do anything for you if you dont like paying money for a good piece of gear, then this isnt going to do anything for you |
Dude, it sounds like you have nothing to say about something you know nothing about. Now STFDASTFU. We're not debating anything. The original posted asked if anyone had any personal experiences with the vest. You don't even know who makes it, yet are willing to bet that it will fall apart too easy. ![]() Anyway, I have one, so I will comment. The vest construction is Gene's usual bombproof handiwork. The mesh is stiff at first, but it will loosen up and become more comfortable. I like the gap in the front. It's a lot cooler for the Texas summers. I suppose it would be possible to bust a buckle, but mine are just beat to hell, not broken. Also, the gap makes it easier to lowcrawl vs the vests that have mag pouches right where you are trying to crawl. In addition, locating the mag pouches off to the side minimizes that annoying habit they have of scooping every loose piece of mud up into them. The hydration carrier is a nice touch. Most vests I've seen have the hydration pocket on the inside of the vest, so it pushes into your back as you tighten the vest. The MESA has the pocket on the outside so that it just expands rearward, with no regard to how tight your vest is or isn't. |
dude, you don't know what the fuck you are talking about. I've been using a MESA for over a year now. It is RUGGED. It will not fall apart, unless you get hit with a 155mm. I've crawled it, run with it, dove onto the ground in it--on dirt, rocks, gravel, etc.--it will hold up. The gap you talk about is supposed to be there. It's patterend after the SA vest which lays more open to keep you cool. The straps can be tightened down to close the gap almost completely. I run it like that. The stiff material gets quite soft after use and only pussies or living room commandos will ever complain about it. Also, if you use the right type of pockets, it wears more like a chest rig than most of the other vests out there. Everything is up in front and easy to access. You'd just have to wear it to know what I mean. The bottom line is that it's a MOLLE vest. It's not supposed to be real fancy. But it IS very well built, has plenty of available PALS webbing, is slim cut (unlike the Blackhawk piece of shit I was using that was cut so big I was swimming in it, and I'm 6'4" and 225--which restricted my arm movement quite a bit) but offers plenty of adjustment for fat guys and body armor, AND it has padded shoulders which many similiar vests don't have and greatly increases the comfort factor because the vest can easily get to 60lbs. The only complaints I have with it are that the shoulder strap adjustments need to be reversed so the wearer can pull down rather than up to adjust them--which is impossible while wearing it and you need you buddy to do it, and that the main female fastex buckles need about 1/4" more connecting strap--it can be hard to get a hold of that end at times. The MESA is an great vest. |
