With the appeal of shooting steel at CQB distance (which it does well)/  And today, I ran those light weight, but long bullets, in a retro 1 in 12 twist M16A1 build. Obviously key hole'ing was expected. - and delivered! .jpg)  And at 10 yards.   and at 50 yards  Here's the thing, it actually still worked. Out to 50 yards, a shot at steel or paper, still hit well enough, even though key-hole'ing started by 10 yards, if not sooner. Not a lot of value to this posting I suppose; it's fairly Captain Obvious. But all the same, was interesting to see the confirmation that A) The long bullet will keyhole in a 1/12 twist bbl (no surprise) B) The accuracy was still "good-enough and serviceable for Government work", out to 50 yards just fine. In other news, first time I ever ran an M16A1 configuration. Very cool gun. The front sight has gotten a lot more blurry than I recall, so that's an issue. But the other item is while it's a sweetheart to shoot, it definitely moves around some. Compared to my Mk18 with a muzzle break and red-dot; this gun requires me to reacquire and re-aim for follow-up shots, notably more than a MK18 style does. Still, I quite loved it! |
