Ok, so it looks like I'm picking up a MK 760 from an original owner. Comes with two original mags, a sling, and the manual
I've read about moding Suomi mags to fit and I've looked at Scott Andrey Machine's website. I think I'm getting it for a pretty decent price, so I'm concerned about how it might run. Anyone know what the common problems are with these and how much work it takes? I'm pretty handy, or at least I can bend and dremel things. I've read that transfer could be as long as 15 months now, so I'll probably have a few mags and spare parts by then. As that's twice as long as my previous two transfers, I'll probably be going nuts by then. I'm going to be awfully disappointed if it doesn't shoot.

I got my MK760 last year. I bought it off of Gun broker from a dealer in Maryland. It came in the original box with a mk760 tee-shirt and 2 original mags. One of the mags was modified/fitted beyond salvage(as the dealer stated) and I didn't like the way the other mag fit. I had already bought 10 soumi mags as my local dealer had already told me that the factory mags sucked. I fitted the mags by hand filing a pad on the soumi mags. The pad is about 1/2" wide and 1" long and took about a dozen file strokes to fit to the mag well. No fitting of the mag release notch was necessary on my gun. The mags are long and will wiggle in the mag well, so you may need to hold the mag either slightly forward or aft in the mag well. The soumi mags are double stack(similar to an UZI) and easy to load. To me a sub gun with a double stack mag is worth an extra 1K$. However it will cause you to shoot your ammo up faster.
The dealer I got the 760 from said it was ammo finicky, not so with the soumi mags. I shoot Blazer aluminum and it runs great. Bottom line is fit the soumi mags(mag wells vary in size, as do mags,) I filed mine, but you may have to build up the pad on yours. Learn how to hold the gun and it will run great. |

I've heard that the factory mags are junk, so I think I'm going to start picking up some Suomi mags while I'm waiting for the gun. Should be able to get quite a few over the next 12 to 15 months. Funny thing is, I was at a small gun show on Sunday, and I picked up a pretty new looking factory mag for $20.

You never know if a mag will work or not. I have a S&W76 and have moded 50 Suomi mags and 48 of them work and 2 don't. I picked up a MK760 mag a while back and finally tried it a couple of weeks ago, It made the 76 into a single shot gun. Asked my buddy that also has a S&W76 to try the mag, he loaded it up, put it in the magwell, and dumped 36 rounds. He had told me awhile ago that he had a MK760 mag that wouldn't work (in his gun), so the deal is I'm trading him the MK760 mag that doesn't work in my gun, but works in his for his MK760 mag that doesn't work in his, but MAY work in mine. I will see how it goes. All magwells are not created equal. So don't worry about your MK760 mag, it may work.
