I was on the HK website and saw the LE semi auto only version of the MP5. Would it be a "LEGAL" import if they added a 16" barrel and designated it a different name than "MP5", thus keeping it off the restricted list? I don't know law but if you were to designate a new sporting rifle moniker couldn't that get in? Just wondering. |

Negative. The only difference between a semi MP5 and auto MP5 is the trigger pack. HK disables ( or removes ) the sear from the pack. The receiver is still a push pin receiver and thus capable of easily being turned into a machinegun. Thats the marketing for HK, buy one gun, turn it semi or full as conditions require. |
| I wonder if an individual person could move one in if it was registered as an SBR (for parts cout) and all the propper import paperwork filled out. When I looked at bringing stuff back from oversees, before I left and only if I was permitted to take a personal weapon, the import request only required that it was not a machine gun and then defined it as a weapon that can fire more than one shot at the single pull of the trigger. |

HK is no longer making the semi receiver. As was said, an MP5 receiver is a MG, even if it has a semi pack on it because it is readily restorable to FA by swapping trigger packs. Also, NFA items can only be imported for LE/gov use. Once they are imported they can be sold to non-LE/gov. |
