Hi guys,
I'm about to take the plunge and buy a MSAR E4, and I want some feedback from those of you who actually own one. I have spent the last couple of weeks searching for reviews, and on about every thread I post on other forums, someone refers me to arfcom. I have come across some mixed reviews, but mainly about the STG556 model. Can those of you who already own an E4 give me a mini-review of your experiences with them? Pics are appreciated! I would also like to know if any of you have used Magpul E-Mags with them. I assume that if P-Mags work, than E-Mags should too, but I can't act on that assumption without double checking. If I order an E4, I'm also going to order a boatload of these mags. I have one more question. Every review says that the rifle is very fun to shoot, but I'm equally interested in reliability. With all the reports of function issues with the older models, I'm a little weary yet. I would like to know if there are any function issues with the E4, however rare they may be, that would cause you to shy away from this rifle as a mbr or shtf weapon. My ar runs flawlessly with the exception of laquer induce failures after 500 or so of those old wolf rounds. Everyone says the E4 is very fun to shoot, but I don't want to buy this rifle if it's not going to be AR dependable. Thanks for all your feedback guys. I'm not trying to put you guys on the spot, or to have you make my decision for me; just looking for opinions and feedback from owners. |

well about 3 months back I had a chance to buy a e4 from a local gun shop
I was kicking it back and forth with a KAC SR-15 I decided to go with the msar just to save a few hundred bucks and try something new (8 ar rifles) so I take my new E4 home....then the fun started first I put a mag in it would not come out pulled like hell and it finally came out took it back to the shop and they called MSAR was instructed to send it in Dave at msar is very great to deal with very help full the problem was it took 5 days to turn around and when I got it back the mags fit great but then the bolt would not release I had had enough and the shop took it back and I bought the KAC but about 1000 rounds in it with no problems.....that being said MSAR customer service was very good..I had a couple of friends buy them at the same time and they love them I just must have got a bad one |

I was about to pull the trigger on an MSAR last week and make the purchase, but first I went home to research them. There are multiple posts like this in the MSAR forums. So I decided to buy some more BCM AR's. |

Mine was without problems until the mag release issue came up this week. Lots of other people have written about the same thing of late, so it's a design flaw that's just now coming up due to the passage of time.
They will take care of the problem, and fix it so it doesn't happen again. I'd recommend one if you like it. It's accurate, reliable, clean to fire, very short and handy, and looks bad assed. All new guns have teething problems, and MSAR seems very on the ball to get them fixed. |
| I was also thinking of getting one, but i was thinking of something that didn't have teething problems, there are far to many as of right now and im gonna hold out awhile longer and keep and eye on them till the issues are gone, maybe an e5. for a shtf type of rifle i don't really wanna deal with crap like mags getting stuck, i was thinking of trading an ar for one but have decided not to. I still love the aug style bullpup but for now its on my watch list, and see what sorta long term abuse they can take. |

I have one and absolutely love it. 6K rounds though it and mo failures. I sold all my AR's to support this rifle. I also have tons of spare parts, just need one so far. This is my cold dead hands gun!
Amazing customer service, fast, free and satisfaction guaranteed. Best in the busines. However I absolutely hate the company. They false advertise everything. Their website is damn near all vaporware. When/if they ever come out with advertised products is unknown to everyone. If they do come out with a few advertised products or accessories before Christmas I will be extremely shocked and suprised. |

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I'm still on the fence about the rifle, but I imagine I'll give in and get one. I just don't like the whole "lottery" aspect of the purchase. I don't play the lottery, so I am weary about buying a gun when there is a 50% chance it will either work flawlessly or fail miserably. The fact that MSAR seems to have great customer service seems to be a plus, but...
Well, the fun show is next weekend, If I get one I'll surely post my results. Thanks again guys. |

I don't think the rate is anywhere near 50%. Folks who have problems will always speak up more than people who are completely satisfied. AR15.com sees a lot of these posts because MSAR is so active on these boards. While it is true that there a lot of post on these forums with complaints I have yet to read one that was not fixed or in the case of optics promised to be fixed by MSAR. If maybe every STG/E4 owner could post on here we could find out what the actual failure rate is.
You are totally justified to be concerned about your potential purchase, as it represents a substantial amount of your money. This post is all my opinion and is based on my observations reading these forums and my personal interactions with MSAR (Dave specifically). If it were not for finances at home I would send MSAR some more of my hard earned money. |

I suspect that you are right. F IT, I'm going to buy one. I guess if it isn't SHTF worthy right out of the box, it will be soon enough, based on what I've read here. I understand the design is still "teething," I guess I'll put my faith in the stellar CS that has been reported here. I'll post a range report and lots of pics in a couple of weeks. Can anyone recommend some good breaking in ammo? I've got thousands rounds of silver bear, but I guess I'll need something else first? Thanks for all the help guys. |

Thanks for all the help guys. 5.56x45mm on high gas setting for 500 rounds and you should be fine. Don't think it would even take that many rounds really if you were to do a high round count in a single day you could probably get away with doing a lower round count break-in. You know do what you should always do for a rifle and take it, field strip it, clean it, and lube it. Once you break it in you should be able to use silver bear all day long. Tomac has been using silver bear for awhile with his STG556 and swears by it. There are rifles you can expect to be SHTF ready out of the box, but none that you should ever "count on" being SHTF ready right out of the box. I always put rounds down range with a firearm before it moves to my "SHTF" grab rifle status. Besides you have to get your sight zeroed in on it and get used to the manual of arms anyways. |
| No one should have to convince you to purchase a particular type of rifle. I have two msar's, one gen 4 converted to an e4 and a e4. I've seen the mag catch problem and corrected it in about 30 seconds with a jeweler's file to the leading edge of the catch. I don't mind firearms that might need a little tinkering as long as once the tinkering is done, the weapon is freaking awesome. |
